Every former President gets this. It is not new for Obama.
True. It’s seen as a sign of respect from the new President to the outgoing. If Obama had any class at all, he’d demur and take a limo ride to his new home.

I know this has been done in the past, but now that the subject has come up: How many ex-presidents have done this, and where did they go? I have no idea if most presidents have taken a final ride, or just a few. My suspicion, when they do fly out of town, is that most of them have gone home. Perhaps not. I don't imagine any of them have ever gone overseas on AF1, and I'd be astonished if Obama did so.
But no other president spent $100,000,000 on personal vacations. We should DENY this courtesy and tradition to this OVERSPENT X-President.
True, but they were leaving Washington and going to their home states. Boy wonder is staying in Washington. He could take a limo to his newly rented house. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt. He just wants the fawning media, shooting video footage of him "boarding AF1 for the last time." It's a legacy thing for his raging narcissism.

Perhaps every former president has gotten this perk, but what is new? No former president lived down the street...
Though I have not researched extensively, I am guessing the former presidents were flown to their homes...not on another vacation. For example, Bush’s last flight on AF1 was to Midland, TX. The Clintons flew to New York. Ronald Reagan flew to Simi Valley, CA. The Carter’s went to Plains, GA.

To quote the article, Susan Porter Rose, chief of staff for Barbara Bush: The president and first lady were at the inauguration. At the conclusion, they’re escorted by the new president and first lady. You go right to the plane. Why would you spend another day in Washington?
After the inauguration of the new president, the outgoing president rides a helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base, for the plane ride home.
The Obama’s are just taking advantage of the Taxpayer coffers for one last joyride on our nickel :(
