rush to throw out Obamacare could backfire

We are the most religious democracy in the world, and our Judeo-Christian ethic demands that we take care of the downtrodden. But we are also the only advanced democracy without universal health coverage. Are we confused . . . or just hypocrites?

My bet is that we are very confused. The public’s reaction to Obamacare (also known as the Affordable Care Act, or ACA) is a prime example of our confusion.

Most Americans are preoccupied with making a living and raising a family, and rightly so. They have no time to fully examine health care policy issues.

Surveys show that people do not like Obamacare, especially the mandatory insurance requirement, but most actually agree with numerous aspects of the health law, like waivers for people with pre-existing conditions.

I believe that many people do not understand how insurance works or realize that you cannot get one thing (waivers) without the other (mandates), due to the basic financial model by which insurance operates.

our Judeo-Christian ethic demands that we take care of the downtrodden

Ignorance of the Judeo-Christian ethic, and of the American ethic that rests on the Judeo-Christian ethic, is the source of much fake persuasion aka bullying.

God asked Cain a question. Cain didn't like the question and tried to change the paradigm to Brother's Keeper . In the Brother's Keeper paradigm you use force to force your agenda on your brother. For the Brother's Keeper paradigm, the only question is whether you force good things or bad things on your brother. Do you run a kind and gentle plantation with safe space for everyone? Or do you run a plantation filled with competition and aggressiveness?

In the Judeo Christian ethic that Cain tried to avoid, you are responsible for yourself and your own choices. As a brother, you offer advice and help to your brother which he has the freedom to voluntarily accept or reject.

“We are the most religious democracy in the world”

Just how many religious democracy/republics exist in this world? Can we count them on one hand?

Obamacare would never have passed if voted on by the electorate. Dems seemed obsessed with the popular vote.

Bullpucky!

Charity is not forced from the empire. That is propoganda and tyranny

Besides, Obamacare’s fraudulent “taking care of the downtrodden “ means destroying jobs and raping the middle class

I expect the Republicans in Congress to make the same mistake that the Democrats made: meet with special interests and lawyers behind closed doors. I expect them to replace Obamacare with something similar.

I give generously to charity, including to several children’s hospitals, as is my Christian duty. In contrast, I strongly disapprove of government charity, which teaches dependence on the “entitlement” while squeezing true charity out of our communities. The writer has no understanding of Christian charity or of the real-world dynamics that fiascos like Obamacare create.

All along, Trump has said “Repeal and REPLACE” Obamacare.

I believe that is part of the reason, so many crossed party lines to vote for him.

If we just repeal Obamacare without replacing it, in my opinion that is when things will start to go south for the GOP once again.

We have seen the GOP self-destruct before. The party has been shrinking now for several decades.

I think the party would have eventually disappeared, because they were not DOING anything.

But Trump stood up, and a whole lot of Americans voted for the guy.

This is part of the reason.

Repeal and REPLACE Obamacare.

Government is not charity. Government by definition has no charity. It is force.

That is tasked tothe church, which these pagan asholes have been fighting with every govt resource they can control.

These m-fers only talk about religion when they want to weaponize it in their argument arsenal against us. Otherwise we are to stfu, go away and bake the damn cake, screw your religious beliefs.

Once again, this author’s argument conflates medical care with medical insurance. The two are not the same.

Moreover, the mandating that persons with pre-existing conditions receive the same insurance at the same rates is just wrong; it forces healthy persons to pay for unhealthy persons, instead of the persons in ill health (often self-inflicted ill health) to pay for their own insurance. Mandating that everyone must buy health insurance which is rigged against them in favor of someone else is wrong too. Two wrongs do not make a right.

First and foremost...we are NOT a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic. A person can say that we are democratic like, but that is stretching it. The Marxists would love for us to become a democracy where mobs rule. I hope they bring back privatized insurance, pre-Obama. All it needed was tweeking out. Everyone was much happier instead of a select few, today. Just look at the Veterans Hospital Systems history. It’s back in the dumps again and costing taxpayers of fraud, waste and abuse which never ends. Semper Fi

We aren’t a theocracy. If the spirit tells you to spend all your money on healthcare for the poor, go right ahead. But the Bible doesn’t command Christians to take from some and give to others.

Nobody crossed party lines for Replace. They crossed party lines because they are tired of political correctness on carbon and speech and genders that are not scientific genders.

The desire of both Republicans and most non-Republicans is an economic boom so big that everyone has a good job and can afford their own medical care. The desire of most Republicans is that private voluntary charity care for those few who can’t work. eg who raised big money for St Jude’s Hospital?

Given our failed mis-education system, can the economy provide good paying jobs for low skilled, uneducated workers?

Given the enormity of the problem, how fast can we grow the economy?

The risk is that without Replace, the economy does not grow fast enough and the low skilled don’t earn enough to cover medical care.

Subsidized Medical care actually has only 4 constituencies:
Pregnant women and their babies
War Vets
Senior citizens
Poor life style choices (over-eating, addiction, promiscuity, crime, etc)

No sane politician proposes eliminating Medicaid, Medicare, Vet care. The question is who how to change them to have less overhead... less inefficiency.

And why not death panels for adults who made poor lifestyle choices. Why should we be force to pay for those who chose to do drugs. If private charities want to help them, that is fine. By why force it on taxpayers?

Pre-existing due to lifestyle choices (tobacco, over-eating, addictions, crime, bad driving, promiscuous sex, etc)
are totally different from pre-existing that are not life-style choices.
