CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. (AP) A giant sequoia tree known for the huge tunnel carved through it has toppled during Californias weekend storms.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the historic Pioneer Cabin in Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County came down during heavy rains on Sunday. A Facebook post from the Calaveras Big Trees Association confirmed the news.

When I was 6, my family took a 3 week trip out West, and among other things, went through one of the “drive through” trees. I think it was the one in Yosemite, that went down in ‘69 — someday hopefully I can find a couple old photos to figure it out.
I still have a little toothpick holder, and a toy truck, made out of redwood, as remembrances.
I never made it back there (except to a couple business conventions with no time to see the sights), except for Hoover Dam on one trip.
Ditto on getting back there while I still can!!
I don't know if we HAVE to; but I'd suspect most of us will.
