An investigation by CNN’s K-File has found that Trump advisor Monica Crowley, who the president-elect has tapped for a senior communications role on his national security team, plagiarized many parts of her 2012 bestseller, What The (Bleep) Just Happened? The Happy Warrior’s Guide to the Great American Comeback. CNN discovered and documented more than 50 instances where Crowley, a former Fox News contributor and syndicated radio host and columnist, had lifted passages or phrases — some wholesale — from a variety of sources including Wikipedia, think tank websites, and news articles and op-ed columns from numerous publications like the National Review, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and many others.
The Trump transition team defended Crowley in a statement to CNN and called the allegation — which CNN backs up with essentially irrefutable side-by-side comparisons — a “politically motivated attack that seeks to distract from the real issues facing this country,” insisting that Crowley’s “exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around is exactly why she will be serving in the [Trump] Administration.”
CNN was unable to get a response regarding the discovery from either Crowley or her book’s publisher, HarperCollins. Crowley is currently set to become Trump’s senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council. She was previously accused of plagiarizing part of a Wall Street Journal column she wrote in 1999, an allegation she denied.
If you mark the statements with “quotes” .. that IS NOT a violation. Also, you can cite the original statements at the end of the book.
However, I’m convinced that liberals don’t do either .. so they have a hard time recognizing it in other books.

Ok for online commenting, but pros aren’t supposed to do it. There is a fine line between research and plagiarism, but it seems Crowley crossed it.
Many, if not most, publishers put the onus on their authors to indemnify them from copyright violations.
Isn’t this old? Few months ago I discovered her plagiarism. Very sad. Disappointing. I still like what she has to say but lost a lot of respect for her. Plagiarism is theft to me.
Correct, but to be fair, Zakaria only plagiarized a very small portion of his work. Given the limited scope, sloppiness may have contributed rather than deliberate theft. The vast bulk of his writing is original idiocy. On the other hand Doris Kearns Goodwin, the establishment’s favorite historian and apologist lifted almost a third of a book from other, uncited, sources.
In both cases the left circled the wagons. For Zakaria, the minor humiliation he suffered was appropriate. Goodwin got off way too easy. She stole a major portion of her work from another author and passed it off as quotation and editing errors. The left establishment bent over backwards to rehabilitate her as soon as possible.
Crowley’alleged offense, if shown to be more likely to be sloppiness akin to Zakaria, I would be inclined to forgive. However if she took substantive ideas and passed them off as her own, she probably needs to go.
For instance, they quote Crowley at p. 166 as saying:

They compare this to Aaron Klein, 2011 who, they claim, stated:

Adbusters is funded by the Tides Center, which acts like a massive clearinghouse of donations to a slew of liberal groups. Well, so there you have it. Two folks claim that "Reuters Reported" and what they claim Reuters reported are nearly identical.
The other cases are similar - i.e. when Crowley reports on something reported elsewhere (e.g. Wall Street Journal or Yahoo news) her report matches closely the language of the original news reporting source.
Wow! A non-plagiarist would have bent over backwards and invented her own #fakenews.

This is the kind of thing I don’t like about my beloved FR. When people excuse immoral or illegal behavior because it’s “one of ours.”
Crowley should apologize sincerely and recall her book or whatever. It doesn’t matter one whit that Hillary is a felonious lying criminal. That is a separate subject. She failed to be honest and that is something she needs to apologize for or she is not a good decent person no matter how smart she is or how much we agree with her. I’d be willing to forgive her.
Uncle Joe used to plagiarize too. As did MSNBC hack Mike Barnicle.
Lets see...JFK did NOT wrote “PROFILES IN COURAGE”, he PURLOINED and NEVER gave credit to the head master of his boarding school, for the stupid “ask not what your country....”, Joe Biden STOLE an ENTIRE speech from a Brit pol, Obama NEVER wrote a word of either of his first two book, and on and on and on and on.
How much worse is this than people who ‘write’ a book using a ghost author?
