Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) will oppose the Republican budget resolution designed to begin the process of unwinding the Affordable Care Act, making him possibly the only member of the majority to break ranks.

In a speech scheduled for later Wednesday, he will criticize the resolution for assuming $9 trillion in additional debt over the next 10 years.

My thought is that if you repeal OCare, then you have zero OCare expenses.

If I rid myself of my car payment, then I owe the bank no more car payments.

Have I written this one a bit better? :>)

So far as expense for gasoline, maintenance, etc., that’s a constant, and would have been the case prior to buying this particular car, so it isn’t connected to paying for this particular auto or any auto.

NO State lines, no limitations

Bingo. Why shouldn't we be allowed to buy health insurance the same way we purchase car insurance? And the larger risk pool created by a national market would take care of the issue of preconditions, just like in group insurance arraignments.

“9 trillion addition to the national debt over the next 10 years.”

I’d love to hear the defense of this from all the Paul Ryan apologists in this thread. Yes it is good to repeal Obamacare but we are doubling down on obamanomics at the same time. Why cant we repeal Obamacare without adding democratic wet dream numbers to the debt?

Like a doctor saying we’re going to fix your broken arm but we’re going to amputate your leg and use that as the brace. Idiotic.

I don’t trust Rand, but then I don’t trust the GOP either.

News has it that they have no intention of repealing Obamacare, only to introduce Obamacare 2.0.

Well, be that as it may, I hope Prez Trump vetoes the bill! To start the new regime with an additional $9+ trl debt is unacceptable to me.

In my opinion (regarding the ongoing health care issue) all the numbers and projections and predictions and suggestions and dire scenarios and rosy rhapsodizing are part and parcel of the public fallout we're being bombarded with in the enemedia....all the while the art of the deal (and a satisfactory deal !) is actually being worked on behind the scenes by some pretty brainy Trump financial, budgetary and health care experts.

I'm not going to get all worked up in an hysterical fret now about "repeal/replacement" as the enemedia wants to see me do. Plenty of time for fretting after I see the meat and potatoes of a new health care bill and if it doesn't cut the mustard for me, I'll express my opinion...loudly.

Keep the faith, everyone !

Ah, I see, but I don’t think they plan on actually repealing all of obamacare. They are going to modify it and keep portions. Also, the health insurance industry has changed a lot since obamacare came into being. You can’t go back to the way it was easily. 9 Trillion is over the top, though, IMO.

The headline is a setup to piss off conservatives. Paul’s opposition has nothing to do with 0bamacare. Is he supposed to accept whatever crap the GOPe dishes out just because one paragraph mentions 0bamacare?

Rand Paul- Square peg in a round hole. Does he really “fit-in” anywhere?

Rep Jim Jordan was interviewed earlier today. I believe he said the budget resolution does not repeal ObamaCare, it is simply an enabling resolution. A necessary first step.

So I don't know why Rand Paul would oppose it. I understand he wants to be cautious, but it's not as if the sky is going to fall when the resolution passes.
