Mexico "regrets" Ford's decision to scrap the plan to build a plant in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, the Economy Ministry said on Tuesday, adding that it has made sure Ford will reimburse any costs and expenses from the state government to facilitate the now defunct investment.
In a surprising statement on Tuesday at 11am ET, in an act of goodwill toward the president-elect, the second largest U.S. automaker said it will scrap the $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million at a Michigan factory, after President-elect Donald Trump had harshly criticized the Mexico investment plan.
The Mexican ministry said that jobs created in Mexico have contributed to maintaining other manufacturing jobs in the U.S. that would have disappeared to Asian competition.
Meanwhile, Mexico vowed to maintain its commitment to making Mexico a competitive nation to attract investment, and reiterated its commitment to modernizing NAFTA in a way that strengthens competitive capacity of North America.
It may find roadblocks in that regard if Trump follows through with his threat to build a "great, big wall" between the two nations.

Mexico doesn’t want the political strife of having millions of unhappy people in their midst. Ship the problem north with an added benefit of money coming back south.
Once the wall is built and deportations begin the political unrest will become a pressure cooker.

Oh, you mean all those indigenous people who live south of Mexico City and are often not even fluent in Spanish? (e.g., They couldn't understand what is broadcast on Univision and Telemundo.) This is the standard globalist bullchit. By lifting their boat we lift our own kind of crap...... it was the major selling point for NAFTA. Unfortunately, the morons who passed NAFTA did not stop to consider that taxes, regulation, and the costs of employees (not wages) made the United States non-competitive for manufacturing. Add in the union demands and it is not difficult to see why companies wanted to move production. In reality, it was move or die.

That said, I’ve owned MANY Ford trucks, big and small, they all had one common problem................”front ends”. Even relatively new ones had shaky front ends driving down the road.

Mexico being correct is highly debatable. If they are correct, it is only with respect to very few dimensions of a larger dimensional development. They have only a small picture of the total; they definitely lack the bigger picture.
What Mexico and feeble politicians on the US side are missing is the loss of jobs in the USA created a vacuum that low-cost labor of their illegals filled, with support and encouragement of their policymakers who also acted to shift the cost of incarcerating their criminals to the USA. The cultural invasion created a backlash and now Mexico is going to pay. Basically, they flunked their opportunity to partner faithfully by hoarding the proceeds for themselves rather than lift up the standard of living in their country. If there should ever be a next time (and there won’t be), they might realize the importance of respecting the US border and its laws.
China will be defeated economically. Mexico will suffer. There will be revolts in one of these and likely both.
As for new decentralized manufacturing employing new generation AI software, the US has the handle on the technology. Cheap labor will wane as a result but the new problem will trend towards making human labor obsolete. Even agricultural labor will be supplanted by the new technologies as robotics are now as agile and dexterous as human beings:

The future is uncertain but there will be an industry to manufacture, upgrade and maintain all the intelligent and agile robots that are now emerging.
Later this century, looking back at the brief attempts of China, Mexico, and others to move as jackals in on the feast of the decline in American manufacturing industries, Americans will think of the crudeness and asininity of the era. What will happen to China and Mexico is not relevant. They will fall in line to follow the leaders as they have always done.
The real vision to acquire in the years during the Trump era will be found in answering the questions of what to do with all the free time? How will the quantity and distribution of goods be structured to meet new notions of what is just and appropriate in a society where many persons no longer work because work is made obsolete?
And... not everyone crossing is Mexican but instead from they are from Central America and imo the worst. Mexico doesn’t want them either so of course they don’t want the wall, that would keep them in Mexico! I recall that the US helped them build a wall on their southern border but they still get in.

Not “IF”, it’s going to be “When” and, Mexico will be paying for the wall. Gotta love it!
..........I think a Ford is a good truck EXCEPT for the front ends and yes we quit buying them largely for that reason.
That said, if I needed a 3/4 ton or above I would buy Ford because the Japanese don’t make that big of Truck and because I have some newfound respect for Ford standing on it’s own two feet financially post 2008.
