Bolton: "make the Russians feel the pain"
Daily Caller ^ | 12/30/2016 | Chuck Ross

Posted on 12/30/2016 11:56:20 PM PST by sunrise_sunset

Appearing on “Fox & Friends,” Bolton, who is reportedly being considered for a spot in the Donald Trump administration, said that the sanctions package that the Obama administration announced against Russia on Thursday is insufficient to deter future Russian intrusions.

“The Russians have walked all over the Obama administration for eight years. It’s really been a pathetic performance,” said Bolton, who served in the George W. Bush administration.

---

Asked what the U.S. should do to deter Russia from waging widespread cyber attacks, Bolton said that the government must build up its cyber offensive and defensive capabilities.

“How do you do that? In this case, you make the Russians feel the pain,” he said.

“If you make them feel pain and others feel pain, then the possibility of deterring future conduct like this increases. That’s what we need to do.”

)bama was hoping Putin would fall for a ‘tit for tat’ - thus stirring up a hornets nest that would create great harm - and a big mess for Trump to walk into - Putin and Trump aren’t going to play.

I was disturbed that Bolton was being considered for SOS - and relieved when he wasn’t chosen (He is a war monger) - Now he should just STFrigU

Prove it! I have yet to see evidence that the DNC leak or any other election activity was caused by Russia.

Well, Donald Trump appears to be a charm offensive guy. Tries to make doing the right thing look as attractive as possible.

He’d be more likely to wave wisely chosen carrots than sticks at Russia. Even Putin senses this.

“Bolton breaks with Trump on this issue.”

Don’t be so sure.

You think Trump is not going to stand up for the US when Russians pull stunts?

You think Trump is some sort of Russian stooge?

Bolton was born in 48 and went to Yale law school like a lot of prominent LIBS. He drew a very low draft lottery number and decided to join the Maryland NG. I damn sure could not get any NG slot in 66, I assure you. Being a recent law school grad he probably got in their JAG corps like Linda Graham in SC. I do not trust Bolton. He is a hack big time. He belongs to many PACs,

I honestly don't think that Bolton was being seriously considered for SOS but only for the Deputy spot. As a good leader/executive, Trump knows the importance of getting different opinions & points-of-view.

I think Trump is going to try the charm offensive first.

Art of the deal. When Trump had to do this in civvie life, he didn’t have guns to stick to anybody’s head.

Besides it’s utter folly. Bolton doesn’t understand psychology or spirituality. Russia is proud, and will shrug off flea bites. What it doesn’t shrug off is a way to save face, like when the USSR started to go really sour because it was unable to be maintained. That’s what pushed them into glasnost. However, it was also decades of worldwide ostracism that did that. Rotsa ruck trying to do that to Russia in the modern post-USSR world.

Donald Trump is willing to deal with Vladimir Putin man to man, and no sneaky tricks either like what Bush did in the Ukraine. This saves lots of face for Russia, who in turn is far more likely to cooperate with keeping its relationship with the world civil.

Yup. A neocon hack. I would have been very upset to see Bolton as 1 or 2 at State. He is just itching for war all over the globe. He should be appointed as assistant under-ambassador to an obscure African nation to get him out of the way..

On a given evening, there are more teenage kids from Hamburg hacking into the State Department, than some Russian mafia thug. It amazes me how naive these idiots speaking on TV really are.

Hacking into the power grid is an “attack”. Hacking into wall street or banks is an “attack”. Taking control of computer systems, destroying data, or altering data is an “attack”.

Hacking into the DNC or Podesta’s e-mails — even if they actually did it — is NOT an “attack” since nothing was destroyed or altered. Releasing TRUE information, no matter how obtained is not “propaganda”, either.

Everybody spies on everyone, even their friends. It would be irresponsible of spy agencies not to try to discover as much about other world powers as they can.

This is Obama trying to play wag-the-dog and I wish neo-cons would stop playing along.
