Grieving is over - Why it's actually a great time to be a Democrat
The Hill ^ | 12/30/16 | Dave R Thomas

For a few weeks now I have joined my fellow partisan Democrats, drinking when I was not crying.

The awful memories of those stunned TV commentators snatching defeat from the jaws of a great early exit poll victory. The hard-earned accomplishments of the past 8 years now at risk due to and an unfit, unwelcome new president. Looking ahead to the damage inevitably inflicted by a unified Republican government on the environment, the social safety net and global leadership.

Yet as a new year begins, I find myself past the 5th stage of grief and on to an unexpected new state of mind: optimism.

Because looking beyond the ashes of 2016 and the inevitable initial defeats of 2017, I see immense opportunities for my party and our capacity to lead our country.

It’s a great time to be a Democrat. There are several reasons why.

First and most important, Democrats remain the party of the future. We are the young, the diverse, the tolerant and the educated. Trump’s negative appeals to fear, intolerance and hatred sow the seeds of future Republican defeats and marginalization.

“those stunned TV commentators”

I can’t remember having more fun while watching TV than watching those commentators and their disbelief at what they were forced to say to the cameras! It was great! I just regret that I didn’t record at the time!

Yeah, Dingy Harry Reid told us all about the DNC's "old folks home" this week. You should read what he said about you 'RATS. LOL.

What about it? California alone doesn’t decide who wins the White House. I thought last month made that pretty clear.

Won't read the entire story (FR tradition) but it sounds like a new meme is being birthed - Hillary lost because she's too old.

It's 'way too early to predict now, but I'll go out on a limb and say Hillary won't be running in '20. Or Bernie. Or even Warren. He's calling for fresh meat to run against Trump in '20. I suppose Cory Booker will be playing that role, channeling Walter Mondale.

“It’s a great time to be a Democrat. There are several reasons why”:

1. When you are at the bottom there’s nowhere to go but up

2. Wealthy fools still keep sending them money to fix things they broke (or will break)

3. Ridicule and truth roll right off their backs - they just cannot be embarrassed

4. They want to be in charge of everything and responsible for nothing

I do agree with him that a new generation of young Dems will have emerged by 2020. No more Hill, Joe, Bernie or Liz.

We are the young.... That's why they ran a couple of 60's retreads in Hill and Bern.

the diverse.... but only the right kind of diversity. White guys and conservative need not apply.

the tolerant... see above.

and the educated... in valuable fields like Social Justice and Community Organizing, and Fill-in-the-Blank Studies. While RedState Normals are building things and getting their hands dirty, these people are writing important policy papers, and tweeting new internet memes.

Fortunately for them, drug users can now get their mental crutch drugs easier. Truly, this guy has no clue. Just think Pres. Trump choosing possibly three Supreme Court justices, hopefully all in their 40s and early 50s, who will lengthen his legacy far into the future. God is good and gracious.

“Funny, Harry Reid and I both see an Old Age Home.”

Well we can laugh at what Reid said, but in the Senate, as an example, there are seven Senators over the age of 80, and SIX of them are Republicans. And in terms of “service” to the country, they collectively represent 21% of the total years of service in that body.

Fineswine (RAT): 24 years (83)
Grassley: 36 years (83)
Hatch: 40 years (82)
Shelby: 30 years (82)
Inhofe: 21 years (81)
Pat Roberts: 20 years (80)
McLame: 30 years (80)

And if you go one more, it gets worse!
Thad Cochran: 38 years (79) and he probably doesn’t know what time of day it is.

So these eight people represent 25% of the years of service while they are only 8% of the membership.

So we can “cluck” about our “Senate leadership,” but we’re the “geriatric party” in the Senate, not the RATs. Trump has his work cut out for him getting these people out of office, all of them, and trying to figure out how to win over our young people.

Methinks the democrats will be playing defense in 2 years trying to keep the GOP from gaining a super majority in the Senate.

But considering they just blew a wad of cash NOT getting Hillary elected...they’ll lack enthusiasm going into 2018.

OTOH Mike Pence is hosting a BIG fundraiser today in Chicago. I could be wrong, but I haven’t heard about any Dem fundraising since the election.

There’s a blind lesbian dwarf black woman on the school board in Tupelo who’s a rising star. Trump better watch his back.

Yup. Right now, Dems are where Republicans were in 2006 or so. No bench, no strong leadership, disorganized base. Basically, whoever shouts loudest holds the floor, that's why they've slithered so far to the radical left.

Will be a decade or so for them to come back, but recover they will. Politics, as all things, are cyclical.

Honestly, I welcome it. The country benefits from having two strong parties, in a two party system. I'd prefer that to three weak parties, which is the direction we're currently headed in.

A person in my office has a 40 year old daughter. I believe they still help support her, as she seems to have gone from job to job in the 10 years I have been here, and I frequently hear his early-morning phone conversations with her. It seems that she is just now starting to come to grips with the fact that Trump was elected. He was telling someone this morning that she seems to be getting better and is not as depressed. He said that she certainly is learning a lot about politics in the past few weeks. It sounds like she is uplifted by the fact that some Republicans are in favor of the sanctions against Russia, so she has a sense that there may be some hope for the future. These people are Jewish, personally know the family of Seth Rich.

If the Democrat party is the party of youth, it’s leadership is ancient.

What a load of self-indulgent horse crap. What a bunch of pussies. "...drinking when I was not crying..."

When Obama won in the last two elections, I don't know of any conservatives who were crying, except tearlessly at the quality of the candidates we were presenting and the ineptitude of the campaigns. We had to go to work, earn a living, support our families, and figure out how to navigate this maze of liberal nanny-statism and economic destruction this "party of the future" was assembling.

The author said: "...First and most important, Democrats remain the party of the future. We are the young, the diverse, the tolerant and the educated..."

Those two sentences are the essence of what is wrong with the Democrat Party. They are the party of victimhood and grievance, and their victimhood and grievances will never be over, because those elements are essential and required tools in their toolbox.

My tagline: Orwell described Liberals when he wrote of those who "repudiate morality while laying claim to it." is clearly demonstrated in those two sentences above when coupled with the actions of their party.

If this person weren't so pathetic, one would laugh out loud right in their face. Come to think of it, that is the only normal response. Your posted graphic, which I think is the funniest one to come out of this election cycle, is completely justified. We need to laugh in their faces, loudly and continually.

“Well, they can probably only move upwards from here...and that witch DID get more votes (just in the wrong places).”

I think that number needs to be put into perspective. If we filter out the illegal alien votes in California and New York (some estimates put that number at as much as 4 million), it’s a very different story. And it is the reason why the Electoral College needs to be preserved. Otherwise we cease to be a Republic, and morph into a “democracy,” where New York City and Los Angeles have the ability to control the entire country.
