Grieving is over - Why it's actually a great time to be a Democrat
The Hill ^ | 12/30/16 | Dave R Thomas

For a few weeks now I have joined my fellow partisan Democrats, drinking when I was not crying.

The awful memories of those stunned TV commentators snatching defeat from the jaws of a great early exit poll victory. The hard-earned accomplishments of the past 8 years now at risk due to and an unfit, unwelcome new president. Looking ahead to the damage inevitably inflicted by a unified Republican government on the environment, the social safety net and global leadership.

Yet as a new year begins, I find myself past the 5th stage of grief and on to an unexpected new state of mind: optimism.

Because looking beyond the ashes of 2016 and the inevitable initial defeats of 2017, I see immense opportunities for my party and our capacity to lead our country.

It’s a great time to be a Democrat. There are several reasons why.

First and most important, Democrats remain the party of the future. We are the young, the diverse, the tolerant and the educated. Trump’s negative appeals to fear, intolerance and hatred sow the seeds of future Republican defeats and marginalization.

I feel like liberals have been saying “we’re one election away from demographics making us unstoppable!” for decades now.

The Dems have to defend 23 Senate seats in 2018. Good luck with that.

Hahahahaaha....

Sorry, but your “party” spent 20 years purging any voice of dissent, as such its made itself IRRELEVANT to most of the country...

Your party is not diverse, perhaps in skin color, but in thought? Nope, no dissent is allowed.. you are a party for the coastal big city arrogant snobs, and dim witted rubes who are conned into their nonsense.

Trump just showed how out of touch you are.. and that your “demographics are destiny” is not going to get you where you need to be.

You have relegated yourself to minority status, and just haven’t come to realize it yet.

Wow, the mayor of South Bend!

Watch out Trump!

Pretty soon the mayor of Mishawaka will get on board and then they will really be ready to roll!

Diverse and tolerent? Is that why they threaten to boycott, silence, imprison and even kill anyone who doesn’t think just like them?

Representing every state and fresh ideas, leaders such as New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, incoming California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Louisiana Congressman Cedric Richmond, and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth fill out a fantastic bench of creative, capable, inspiring national figures. Leaders like these are ready to define the future of the Democratic Party, and I’m excited to help them do it

Notice how he left Keith Ellison's name off the list? lol

The “young” were sitting around bawling their eyes out at the prospect of no free college the last I checked, and the “tolerant” were calling us racist, sexist, homophobes.

We are the young, the diverse, the tolerant and the educated.

The Democrats are only the party of the young because age brings with it wisdom that gives a more perceptive view of what Socialism is all about.

Likewise, the Democrats are only diverse in that they pit different groups of people against each other on the basis of religion and skin color. They do not tolerate anyone who has opinions that are not radically Socialist.

Higher ideals like tolerance and mutual respect for the freedoms of other people regardless of whether they hold differing opinions or practice a different religion are actually not a part of the Democrat/Socialist mindset.

As for the "educated" part, I think he is referring to a college or university degree, which often is more about indoctrination than it is about gaining knowledge or the ability to think critically.

A great time to be a Democrat? Really?
Your party LOST more than a 1000 seats nationwide.
You have only five states with only a democrat Gov and legislature...FIVE.

Obama has decimated an entire generation of new Democrat leaders. You only have elderly people still in office.

This is pretty funny. The author summarizes this way:

>>Yet as a new year begins, I find myself past the 5th stage of grief and on to an unexpected new state of mind: optimism.<<

The word the author meant is “DELUSION.”

More proof that the Democrat Party has been infiltrated by a bunch of spineless wusses.

For a few weeks now I have joined my fellow partisan Democrats, drinking when I was not crying.

People who have spent the last 7 weeks drinking and crying because of an election result have bigger things to worry about than politics - they need help for severe emotional problems. And I'd be very concerned that such troubled people are eligible to vote at all.

Well Reagan suffered in the 2 year elections past his election because the nation expected immediate miracles but then he had a DEM House throwing roadblocks up

Turnout in off years is not like presidential elections so the GOP should be OK unless the economy takes a real dive
