If not for this past Monday night's highly watched NFL game, The Walt Disney Co's ESPN network would have had its smallest audience for "Monday Night Football" in 2016 since the 2006 season.
[Snip]
This year marks the third consecutive year that ESPN's "Monday Night Football" audience has declined, and the fifth decline in the past six years.
The NFL ratings downturn was most notable in primetime. ESPN was among the hardest hit, with viewership falling nearly 12 percent from last season, according to the Nielsen data.

For some mysterious reason ... people aren't buying their crap.
The NFL can go to hell!
I just don’t have 4+ hours to devote to the NFL and their constant advertisements.
Working Americans have stagnant incomes thanks to our massive, statist, leftist government. I have to work just to stay above water, pay for my shitty Obamacare, pay taxes, etc... I can’t give you 4 hours of my week, NFL.
And when the NFL then sides with the oligarchs, that just hurts even more.
Even if just for the survival of football, Kaepernick shoulda been bounced.
The NFL really shot itself in the foot with that whole nonsense.
ESPN has moved onto other things than football (snicker)
Yep there sure are lots of commercials on the games.
It really interrupts the flow of the game to have so many commercials. They always go to a bloc of commercials after a scoring play, then come back for the kickoff, then another delay of game for another bloc of commercials. I think they have stretched the commercial time outs too far.
I wish there was more enthusiasm for a real boycott of ESPN but it looks like that’s never really going to happen.
The cord cutters are starting to have an effect though. We need to get to 100% ala carte cable so we can control where our support goes.
In light of the “Celebrity Culture” putting on a counter-inauguration and the anti-Trump feelings expressed in the NBA, isn’t it time to totally reject celebrities - period!
oh we can't have a tribute to the fallen police men but we do allow our uniform wearing highly paid jocks to do whatever they want to demean the whole country....
I’m always happy to contribute to their dismal ratings by not watching any of their programming.
Walt Disney is spinning in his grave.
Throw in a bunch of college games throughout the week and I'm kind of footballed-out by Monday night.
The title raises the obvious question: what was the worst season?
No patriots in America want to watch overpaid, anti-American, ungrateful pieces-of-sh*t.
The title raises the obvious question: what was the worst season? Was that a strike season?
For the entire league or just the Cardinals?
Heck, just listening to Sean McDonough’s monotonic lack of excitement is enough to put one in a coma. Even Jon Gruden is succumbing to Sean’s boringness.
“footballed-out” is the exact word we use in our household as well, as in the following conversation, “I’m all footballed-out.”; “Yeah, me too”.
