No he did that in 1981.
I looked up the date. It was Tuesday November 10 1987. Jimmy was the first guest and he did do a reading. Youtube has a very short clip of Johnny saying goodbye at the end of his appearance. I guess some of the clapping you hear might be mine although I was almost at the very back.
