A "shameful" abstention by the U.S. in a United Nations Security Council vote Friday allowed passage of a resolution condemning Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank.
The resolution was put forward by New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal after Egypt withdrew it Thursday under pressure from Israel and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
It was adopted with 14 votes in favor, to a round of applause, after U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power abstained. It is the first resolution the Security Council has adopted on Israel and the Palestinians in nearly eight years.
Reaction from U.S. Republicans and Jewish leaders around the world was swift and sharp.
"This is absolutely shameful," said House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. "Today's vote is a blow to peace that sets a dangerous precedent for further diplomatic efforts to isolate and demonize Israel."
The Obama White House, under heavy pressure from the Israeli government and its supporters to veto the resolution, kept everyone guessing until the vote whether it would stop shielding Israel from council resolutions and permit it to pass by abstaining.

Obama’s legacy, voting present, abstaining, but never leading.
Why are so many Jews so self destructive?
So this is how Obama repays our only Mid-east democratic ally for Netanyahu’s gracious speech a couple years ago. Netanyahu spoke eloquently about the historic ties between Israel and the US, and personally and profoundly thanked President Obama for the US’s enduring support for Israel. Now Ocarter stabs Netanyahu in the back. We can’t get rid of Obama fast enough, IMO.
Obama and the UN show once again they both despise Israel’s existence..on Jan 20th things are gonna change for the BETTER
The Mossad has a long memory.
Will this actually effect anything directly or is it just symbolic?
Obama didn’t keep any of us guessing, we knew what he is...a Jew hater..
Remember what happened when Israel left Gaza, leaving behind buildings and businesses? —> all were destroyed.
Until Trump is actual in power, Israel is on its own.
I hope Trump gets the right guy, a la John Bolton, as U.S. U.N. rep and reverse these hateful and despicable Obama moves against Israel.
What a rat b@stard.
The UN is doing pretty good they have their sustainable development BS running throughout our cities and Communist Core (UNESCO) in all of our classrooms.
“Why are so many Jews so self destructive?”
Jewish people, not Jews. Big, big difference.
Including:
A top U.S. senator who oversees funding for the U.N. threatened on Friday to pull financial support for the international body if it moves forward with the resolution, and for any nation that backs the measure.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who heads the subcommittee that controls foreign aid, said in a statement: "If the United Nations moves forward with the ill-conceived resolution, I will work to form a bipartisan coalition to suspend or significantly reduce United States assistance to the United Nations."
@KatiePavlich Yes! The UN is anti-American/Israel/women/freedom
It's a long list, tip of the iceberg above
US OUT OF THE UN!— Slip Stream News (@GaryZPon) December 23, 2016
Something like this shouldn’t be done in the waning days of an administration. Obama’s letting it all hang out now.
I do like Trump’s tweet. Thank goodness he won.
Mostly the remaining buildings and greenhouses were converted to arms and munitions manufacturing.

That sounds good, but I have to ask, considering all the anti-US and ant-Israeli activity in the UN, why hasn’t the US cut UN funding already?
I responded to a post talking about “American Jews”
So what is the “Big, big difference” as your opinion implied?
