The New York Times endorsed the election of presidents by popular vote in the 50 states plus the District of Columbia. The Times resorts to playing the race card by arguing that the original reason for the Electoral College was to favor the Southern slave states:
The Electoral College, which is written into the Constitution, is more than just a vestige of the founding era; it is a living symbol of America's original sin. When slavery was the law of the land, a direct popular vote would have disadvantaged the Southern states, with their large disenfranchised populations. Counting those men and women as three-fifths of a white person, as the Constitution originally did gave the slave states more electoral votes.
This race argument is based on the essays by attorney Donald Applestein and Yale law professor, Aklhil Amar, who argue that counting each slave as three fifths of a person added to the population of the slave states, thereby giving the slave states more representatives in the House and therefore more electoral votes than it would have if slaves were not counted.
The Times is linking the argument for a popular vote election to labeling the Electoral College as a living symbol of slavery that must be abolished. We fought a civil war to end slavery, but the Times dredges up slavery as reason to endorse the popular vote.

I will not ever seriously consider getting rid of the electoral college.
The EC prevents the tyranny of the majority.

Would that be the same Electoral College that twice gave the presidency of the US to B. H. Obama?
If we want to get to the root of our “original sin” then the solution is obvious. We need to ban the Democratic Party and this country’s obssession with cheap illegal labor. Recently I was down south, in the land of cotton, and guess who is working those fields? Illegals.

They fail to mention Bill Clinton won only 42% of the votes. Without the EC, he would have lost the run off and never would have been president.
First, in case the media hasn't heard, there is no legal slavery in the United States any more. There's no more 3/5's count of slaves. The electoral college is determined by the number of Representatives and Senators, with 2 Senators from each state and Representatives apportioned by population.

I am worried that the Left Wing is taking this race baiting/racism a bit too far. It’s already causing killings and loss of time money and manpower to investigate things that do not exist. And all this because the Democrats, the Party of slavery, the party that even now wants cheap labor that can be exploited to come here from Central America, lost an election.
This same party, the Democrat party, was funded by the Saudis, who regard women as less than the value of a camel. The Saudis, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and China “donated” millions to the Clinton Foundation for Hillary or use during her election run. Countries that have the worst records of slavery, abuse and harsh treatment of women and somewhat slavery.
So for the Press to be calling for the elimination of the Electoral System because they lost and blaming that system on Slavery, an institution that the Democrat Party appears to still be attracted to, is just hogwash. That party wants to enslave middle America to adhere to their beliefs or be subjected to harsh punishment and retribution for not obeying the Democrat Task Masters.
Racism, it caused the Democrats to want to secede in 1861, and it’s causing them now to want to secede because in fact the Democrats never really gave it up, they just sat back silently achieving power until this day. California claiming to be a sanctuary state just means they have agreed to use slave labor from Mexico and abandon the Federal laws on slavery.
I’m sorry if anyone disagrees with me here. I am tired of the Democrats blaming everyone else for what they hold dear to their hearts and want to achieve in the US.
Because the rest of the US doesn’t hate CA and NYS enough yet. Sigh.

Next, the Times will come out for insisting that the Cleveland Indians be declared co-champions with the Chicago Cubs because in the 7 games of this year’s World Series both teams scored an equal total of 27 runs.
Scrap the NY Times because it’s associated with treason.
It takes a Constitutional Amendment with ratification by the States to scrap it.
Good luck with that as the ‘Fly Over” states know it would mute their voice in the process and none of them will sign up for that.
This election only proves the wisdom of the founders to make sure everybody is a part of the process and not just a few big cities.
