As the crowd cheers say goodbye to additional jobs in the US. Tarrif wars haven’t worked each time they’ve been used. Work with steel? Nope sure didn’t. Work with any of the 18000 tarrifs presently in place today? Nope. Tarrif wars didn’t work during pre WWII or anytime they’ve been adopted. One thing tarrifs do guarantee. Higher product costs and loss of jobs. Truck drivers sorry you lost your jobs. Long shoremen ooops sorry about your jobs too. Shipping, packaging, freight brokers hey it’s for the common good. Government gets to pick who wins in the free market and the crowd cheers.
What’s killing business is Government yet we cheer when Government gets in the way. Regulations are the #1 job killer in this country and guess what? Tarrifs won’t solve it. Each time a liberal has created a tarrif its crippled the economy. But hey it’s the cool thing to do. Be wary of nationalist populist policies
Sorry, Jarhead, but this country lived on tariffs until the infernal income Tax came into being. Can’t say that caused any improvement. A deciding factor of Lincoln going to war with the confederacy was he couldn’t stand to lose the southern tariffs.
We don’t need China, but China needs us. We need to bring our jobs back to our country where they belong. If it takes imposing higher tariffs, so be it. We are the world’s largest consumer. They need us more than we need them. Time they learned that.
Well stated history lesson lest we forget. I truly believe we are simply in the opening salvos of a massive adjustment on trade policies. Imagine if Trump can truly open the chinese market to US made goods? Right now we are not competitive because china in engaging in unfair trade practices. Removing those barriers would be a huge win and is likely the end game here. Your points are spot on though.
You have no idea what you are talking about. You are just repeating what you have been told. Sit down, shut up, listen, and learn something.
If tariffs don’t work, why does China have them for US imports, jarhead?
Reagan saved Harley Davidson with a tariff on Jap bikes over 700 CCs. Some will argue that HD bikes are still not as good as Suzukis ( the former aren't rice rockets - no denying) , but they are an order of magnitude better than they were in the 80's. Reagan's nationalist populism bought them time to up their game.
The USA built itself int an industrial powerhouse behind a high wall of tariffs. FACT.
