Ratings restored: Effective immediately, sailors will get their job titles back

Navy leaders are reversing their controversial decision to eliminate sailors’ ratings and will restore job titles across the fleet, according to a Navy message set for release Wednesday.

Effective immediately, enlisted sailors will officially regain their ratings, the traditional job titles that have inspired a deep cultural loyalty and that have defined enlisted career tracks for generations, Navy officials said.

The move comes three months after the Navy stunned sailors around the world in September by eliminated ratings titles, including those such as boatswain’s mate that dated back to the founding of the service.

The extraordinarily rare move comes after a fierce backlash from the fleet that became a distraction from the Navy's broader effort to reform the antiquated personnel system, Navy officials said.

So, you're one of those fatalists who believes the great American Experiment is already dead, huh?

I never said that. YOu projected it. It IS dying. Can we save it? Maybe. How do we reeducate the millions of young people in this country that believe in socialism as taught to them by the public schools?

What was the point of voting in Trump, if that's the case?

To try to right what's wrong. If one is sick doesn't one try to heal?

What's the point of Free Republic, if that's the case?

To have discussions and, hopefully, find like minded people capable of rational discourse.

What's the point of you posting here?

See above.

What's the point of drawing breath?

I know why I draw breath. Are you having trouble with YOUR reason for drawing breath?

Sheesh...

Boy, I'll say...

Ray, you made a fatalistic statement which I took as an attempt to rain on our parade of winning.

Maybe you only wanted to point out that we have a generation of indoctrinated snowflakes that aren’t on board with making America great again, to contend with.

We know that, just as we know that their leftist elders are still here, and will continue to promote and work towards their agenda throughout the coming years.

I get all that.

The overriding point is, the center of gravity is shifting in our direction. It’s why Trump was elected. The majority of real Americans don’t want what the left is selling, and they’ve been saying it at the ballot box since 2010. Because of that, the Dems have lost somewhere around a thousand seats at the federal, state, and local level over the last six years.

Sure, there’s a hundred years of systemic libtard rot to halt and reverse, but at least the tide has turned, and that ought to give you hope for our future.

All of the ships I served on from 1969 through 1979 had the boatswain of the watch pipe all of the various daily evolutions, from reveille to lights out.

I arrived at CV-66 in Portsmouth, Va in Feb 1977 and after we left there on to NOB NORVA at Pier 12. I walked all through they shipyards and later N.O.B. piers and never heard a one until we returned from out 77-78 MED Cruise and entered Norfolk Naval Shipyards again. IIRC likely in March or April and I was walking down the pier in the yards and heard a nearby ship doing it then in a few weeks we were. I can't speak for what happened on ships at nearby bases such as The Amphib Base either during that time.

Several other things changed as well. Up until the middle of MED Cruise 79 we never had Liberty or Pier passes to leave ship. At liberty call we left by presenting our ID Card we kept on our person unless restricted to the ship best I remember. We did have an incident in Venice Italy during the 79 cruise where some guys from The Hole wrecked a bar and darn near got all liberty canceled for the ship for the rest of the cruise. After that passes were issued even to take trash to the pier and I still have my Liberty Pass LOL. Late 79 IIRC also started the uniform changeover. In Sept 80 my division officer did a separation seabag inspection on me and even though I had the older blues all intact I had to purchase the new Crackerjacks before I got out. I didn't need the dress blues because we were in overhaul my last year and had no formal dress blues uniform inspections.

the Bosuns call seems to have been used more in PACFLT in the 70s.

That would make sense as PACFLT has always been more the showcase so to speak including wearing whites which we never did. Most promotional pictures you see crews are wearing dress whites.
