Your observation of his possible feelings about the capabilities of minorities does jibe with the standard outlook of liberals that minorities aren’t capable enough to make it on their own.
Sigh. I would like to THINK that education would help, but...there are plenty of well-educated liberals who drink that Kool-aid.

Gong to a school, being ‘knowledgeable’, even getting a degree, don’t ensure that you are truly *educated*; especially now, when public education has been so ‘dumbed-down’.
When I was a kid, we had to study civics and American history, to graduate from High School. That doesn’t seem to be widely required now, and doesn’t seem to be a requirement even at many Universities.
If these ‘kids’ - and some adults - who have recently been protesting against the Electoral College, had actually been educated about it, many would have seen the brilliance of it; and wouldn’t be so easily swayed by shallow, politically-driven arguments against it.
