I suspect that they are trying to get a ruling that frees them as well as other electors.
If they don’t have to vote for Hillary, then a whole bunch of other don’t have to vote for Trump in states that he won.
That’s the game they are playing.

If they win in the 10th Circuit, the win will apply to every state in the 10th Circuit, freeing up all that are in states in the 10th Circuit with laws to bind them to vote for whomever they want.
If they lose and appeal to SCOTUS and win, every state in the 29 with Elector binding will be unbound to vote for anyone.
Yes, this IS a possible BIG deal.
Per another comment on a similar post - they want to set a precedent so electors in other States might ride their coattails. They probably think they're being clever by doing it in a Hillary State....
