WASHINGTON — American spy and law enforcement agencies were united in the belief, in the weeks before the presidential election, that the Russian government had deployed computer hackers to sow chaos during the campaign. But they had conflicting views about the specific goals of the subterfuge.
Last week, Central Intelligence Agency officials presented lawmakers with a stunning new judgment that upended the debate: Russia, they said, had intervened with the primary aim of helping make Donald J. Trump president.
The C.I.A.’s conclusion does not appear to be the product of specific new intelligence obtained since the election, several American officials, including some who had read the agency’s briefing, said on Sunday. Rather, it was an analysis of what many believe is overwhelming circumstantial evidence — evidence that others feel does not support firm judgments — that the Russians put a thumb on the scale for Mr. Trump, and got their desired outcome.
It is unclear why the C.I.A. did not produce this formal assessment before the election, although several officials said that parts of it had been made available to President Obama in the presidential daily briefing in the weeks before the vote. But the conclusion that Moscow ran an operation to help install the next president is one of the most consequential analyses by American spy agencies in years.

So the Russians managed to stuff the ballot boxes with Trump votes and swing the election in dozens of states without anyone noticing. Sure. Heck the Russians couldn’t even build a jeep that didn’t break down hauling Castro’s ashes to the cemetery. While the leaked emails might have influenced some voters, the in the tank for Hillary media managed to pretty well cover up that story and broadcast an unending stream of lies and pro Hillary propaganda.
A “swell” of evidence. Now there is an artfully imprecise term.
I pray it doesn’t come to that.
It’s past time for the Republicans to step up and denounce this blatant attempt at destroying over 200 years of American democracy. Yes it is that serious.
Instead of denouncing this Russian fairytale, we have GOP Senators signing a bipartisan statement giving legitimacy to this story.
I used to scoff at people who said that Obama would declare martial law and not leave office on time. As crazy as it sounds, I’m no longer certain that is impossible.

They provided evidence that NK hacked Sony. Some computer forensics folks (some were freepers) quickly debunked the evidence. There was nothing definitive. The official conclusion was merely crafted to meet an agenda.

A second senior official cited by the Washington Post conceded that intelligence agencies did not have specific proof that the Kremlin was “directing” the hackers.
Craig Murray, the former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan, who is a close associate of Assange, called the CIA claims “bullshit”, adding: “They are absolutely making it up.”
“I know who leaked them,” Murray said. “I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider. It’s a leak, not a hack; the two are different things.
“If what the CIA are saying is true, and the CIA’s statement refers to people who are known to be linked to the Russian state, they would have arrested someone if it was someone inside the United States.
“America has not been shy about arresting whistleblowers and it’s not been shy about extraditing hackers. They plainly have no knowledge whatsoever.”
The California Republican congressman Devin Nunes, chair of the House intelligence committee and a member of the Trump transition team, said: “I’ll be the first one to come out and point at Russia if there’s clear evidence, but there is no clear evidence – even now. There’s a lot of innuendo, lots of circumstantial evidence, that’s it.”

Exactly. If there is so much evidence why can’t we see some of it?
Now they (which includes thousands within the "establishment") are getting scared s***less as it sinks in.
But, convincing the public (or the stupid ones at least) that the Russians helped Trump isn't going to change the election results, so I don't know what they're expecting to happen. Perhaps the idea is to try and spin up some protests/riots.. that seems to be their answer for everything.
What is a swell of evidence? Is it something less than a preponderance of evidence but more than pure conjecture?
Start to worry when Hillary starts firing up her fake transition team.
This is what you call a last desperate act by a bunch of folks who are in way over their heads. The only thing they will accomplish by this is getting a bunch of these lunkheads (as you most accurately described) killed.
