I agree with that thought
Trump is something of a mystery in what he will do in the mideast. I don’t think he will punt like Obama did.
Ultimately, I think he will side with the GCC states and insist on a division in syria that includes an Ottoman like Sunni corridor along the Euphrates valley that allows a pipeline for gulf oil to the Mediterranean into Europe. There will be deals with the Turks to resolve their mortal disagreement with the new defacto Kurdistan.
The constant strife over who will rule, sunni or shia will be determined by letting them have their own spaces.
A pipeline is exactly why the Russians will continue to stir up trouble. They will not want competition from the south for their European market.
