Bartertown Diner didnt allow for bosses or managers and allowed for a living wage, and a strong union. It also apparently didnt allow for enough profits to stay open.
Workers at Bartertown were able to decide the menu and business hours, creating odd times that confused customers. Many patrons complained that it took up to 40 minutes to get a sandwich.
Politics also caused fights between customers. Bartertown offered free food to police officers for keeping the community safe, which enraged socialists who hate cops. Additionally, their no tipping policy caused staff not to work as hard because there was no benefit.

My observation is that liberal run businesses are the most slow and inefficient there are. There is a coffee shop near where I live, and it is run by a bunch of liberals (by appearance and what they have posted on their walls)
They are well staffed, have a boatload of people, but they simply cannot get out of their own way.
I cannot go in there anymore.
And if you asked them why, they’d give you a million excuses and not one good (or truthful) reason.
What do we want? Asparagus rights! When do we want it? Now!
Power to asparagus.
LOL - I avoided asparagus like the plague.
Then I had some grilled asparagus with butter.
It replaced my standard steamed broccoli every time I was able to go to a steak house.
Now I like to make Asparagus in butter, in a skillet, with a little lemon juice, chopped onion and to top it off, a little bacon in there (plus some other spices).
Good, good, good stuff.
It's not just power to asparagus, it's even worse. It's white power to asparagus, those evil asparagosupremacists. The SPLC will be on them shortly, lol.
But seriously, though, asparagus is one of those love-hate vegetables. What most people typically encounter is disgusting, it's bitter and makes your bodily fluids smell like asparagus. Baby asparagus lightly steamed with bearnaise is nice, though, and I've had it grilled that was good, too. The key seems to be to not let it grow too large, like cucumbers or even wild greens like poke salad. Of course poke is poisonous when mature, so you can't even eat that unless it's picked when young shoots.
At my house during asparagus season I cook up a couple of pounds of asparagus and make a big bowl of hollandaise sauce and we all take bowls of sauce and DIP. What a great meal.
I have a terrific Blender Hollandaise that comes from the Joy of Cooking that hits the spot.
A limited menu of bread and water didn’t help.
Forget the asparagus and eat the bacon.
I’ll have the Mao Burger with a Castro Shake. :)
The irony is, that under real Communism these places would not exist, they would be government-owned, and the workers sure wouldn’t have any say in what their hours are.
They should do fundraisers like ETV. Throw a few Pol Pot lucks.
So instead of running it like Karl Marx they ran it like Groucho.
The Stuffed Castro Cakes and Lenin On A Half Shell are to die for.
What about the ol’asparagus pee stink problem?
Has science found a cure yet?
[poke salad]
Is that Polk Salad? I never had it.
I remember Steve Landesburg doing an asparagus joke on “The Tonight Show” back in the ‘70’s.
Ah for the days of Tony Jo White. I think I saw him on “The John Byner” show - whatever it was, I seemed to remember it seemed filmed. Maybe that was just parts of it.

Dunno. I had to get a car worked on (bought some new tires with a tax refund last year).
Went a few doors down, to Panda Express I think it was, and ordered beef with asparagus.
Had a bit of surprise later. Had no idea, I guess. :O
