His indomitable will steeled by a dozen years in the Soviet gulag, decades of sparring with the K.G.B. and a bout of near fatal heart disease, Vladimir K. Bukovsky, a tireless opponent of Soviet leaders and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, is not a man easily put off his stride.
But he got knocked sideways when British police officers banged on the front door of his home on a sedate suburban street here early one morning while he lay sick in bed and informed him that they had received information about forbidden images in his possession.
...
The images sought by the British police, however, had nothing to do with politics but involved child pornography, a shocking offense in any jurisdiction. The officers hauled away a clunky desktop computer from Mr. Bukovskys study a chaos of books and papers dusted with cigarette ash and a broken computer from his garage.

Just remember this name: Laura Silsby.

This won’t die if we watch this woman and her tentacles.
5200 people were investigated. Eventually, 28 of these 5200 Pentagon employees were charged with child porn, resulting in 25 acquittals, one suicide, one international fugitive and a single criminal conviction.
Nice work!
Doesn't matter. No better way to destroy a man than to link his name to a child porn accusation. Regardless of where the investigation goes, he'll never get his reputation back.
Well it does sound like the possible set up to a honey trap for Rooskies. This is not big porn, this is not even the typical stash of a pedo. The whole silly thing could have been staged, for all we might know.
Spy vs. spy vs. spy.
I mean... he screams in the media about getting “caught” — while at the same time the agents of the Crown write all his friends and family and advise them to sit tight, this is a counterintelligence action.
The Rooskies see the media account and get bolder. They will now try to push 1000 kiddie porn pictures onto his machine, which has been specially equipped with honey trap software to “accept it” while reporting to a Crown agency on the connections in detail.
Eventually there is a bust — not of him, but the Rooskie operation — and it is publicized.
>> This is not the usual situation.
Agree.
I have no opinion on this guy, but circumstances make it look to me like a setup.
Really?? I work in computer security in a not-so-Podunk place called Cambridge, MA. To me this whole thing— and the whole Russophobic BS in general— is as ludicrous as the Trump white supremacist meme put out by all MSM. I think we are living a time of collective psychosis and deep-rooted hated of Christianity. I think this is at the root of how the left perceives the world, including Trump, Trump supporters, Russia, Syria, et al. I think we are seeing the beginning of the end times battle of good and evil.
We don’t know if you are being paid for disinformatsia...
“Russophobic” — I dunno, I’d wonder if all the cuckoo clock cogs are in order after an excellent adventure like Crimea. There might still be something to phobe, though not on the order of the USSR at this point.
The slinging around of the “phobic” label in accusations is often part of disinformation. It inflames, and is detrimental to logical thinking.
Russia has more people of influence than just Putin, and some of them have aspirations that go beyond Putin’s.
At any rate, one could “work at the Trump tower” and still hardly know what Donald intends, because it’s a floor sweeping job. If you’re going to boast a viewpoint, I’d expect to know what that viewpoint really is.
OK, this defensiveness has gone nuclear. I think we know why they are so defensive, because this fake news is making these Leftist elitists squirm.
Its not like the Russians don’t have form in using demoralisation techniques and other dirty tricks to attack their enemies.
News of currently unknown truth.
Russia has become such a subject of lively talk because it used to be regarded as lefty, but now has been regarded as righty due to friendly talk with Donald Trump.
When you have a country that might be double agents, it’s hard to know what really is true about it. What is in Russia’s self interest? Cui bono? A melange of things including a sense of its historic pride, something that the USA can’t really be blamed for having or understanding.
Anyhow, if it bleeds, it leads. This is still a good adage in the news biz even if the paper itself was swinging the knife. Something like this will definitely grab eyeballs. We got fog of war going on here. I think the NYT might be partly right.
Link?
When your in Boston I'll meet you at a Dunkin Donuts for coffee and show definitive proof that I'm not a Russian operative. ;-)
Yes, we know those brave Chechen Separatists could not have placed a bomb with their distinguished record of defensive combat, why a few of them stood off a force of more than 380 fanatical Russian grade school children for almost three days when the kids cornered them in the gym.
And here we have bigoted Bostonian Islamophobes directed by the Russian FSB, closing in on a besieged Chechen Goodwill Ambassador to plant the evidence that framed him for a bombing.
It's important to stand up for Chechen Separatists, for sure!
>> It is pathetic to see people at a “conservative” site stand up for the KGB regime <<
Wherever Mr. Trump leads, we must follow. Concepts like “conservative” and “free market” are too quaint, too old-fashioned — no longer operative. Get with the program!
