WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republicans are laying the groundwork for a fresh effort to overhaul the food stamp program during Donald Trump's presidency, with the possibility of new work and eligibility requirements for millions of people.
The GOP majority on the House Agriculture Committee released a two-year review of the program on Wednesday that stops short of making specific policy recommendations, but hints at areas where Republicans could focus: strengthening work requirements and perhaps issuing new ones, tightening some eligibility requirements or providing new incentives to encourage food stamp recipients to buy healthier foods.

If you are under 60 or 65 and able-bodied, you should have to meet a truck at 8:00AM Monday thru Friday to go out and clean roads, parks and high litter areas BEFORE you get food stamps OR welfare checks...PERIOD...
From what I understand the practice continues, SNAP, fifty cents on the dollar.
“Or providing new incentives to encourage food stamp recipients to buy healthier foods.”
We could put Michelle Obama in charge. Her school lunch proposals will now be for food stamps
The state of NY’s cash assistance debit cards are being used to pay for vacations, buy booze and buts...you name it!
Another thread here today: 3502297 has some really interesting facts about where EBT cards are used.
The fraud in welfare is beyond imagination.
I hope someone has sent this to PE TRUMP.
This has been a priority of Paul Ryan since before he came in as speaker. They have had workgroups studying proposals in earnest this year, in preparation for a possible Republican President.
They should have some reforms ready.
The work requirement however, is still in law - it was administratively suspended by Obama, so it can snap back with a pen stroke. The work requirement cut caseload in half (over five years) when it was first put in (1996).
When Maine reinstituted their own work requirement in 2014, their caseload for able-bodied recipients with no children dropped 80% in three months.
Pushing a bunch of able-bodied people off the couch and into jobs will both stimulate the economy, and improve the Government’s budget balance.
Inner cities may be the most benefitted.
Lots of room for reform, and lots of room for fake news sites like AP to make up their narratives.
I didn’t think Trump could win at first, but he kept doing the one thing that had to be done- fighting the media.
C Rats, oh God! If that were to happen people would line up for jobs.

Something where I agree with the House GOP vs. Trump.
Let’s hope they get compromising by adopting the favored reforms of both.
I'm pretty sure he's not going to be here to get the message. Besides, he was just into health food!

That sonds good to. By THE way,..I think military “C” Rats Rats good.
The media is going to cover this as “Trump to take away food stamps from needy”.
EBT should cover less than 25 items, nothing else. No tobacco, drink, chips, sugar, non-grocery.
Agreed. Assistance for someone that needs the help. Snowflakes can be kicked to the curb. They can work. They just do not want to do what previous generations have done: grow up.
“You should NEVER be able to get cash back on food stamp purchases”
No such thing as cash back on SNAP purchases within the system.
Good-start by renewing the welfare-to-work provision from the 90’s that Obama eliminated-when people have money and goodies to lose by avoiding work, it is surprising how quickly they will find a job and go to work...
The House GOP needs to shut up and enact Trump’s agenda before they flap their gums about anything else.
