Raleigh, N.C. After weeks of bitterly contesting the results of the gubernatorial election, Republican Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday conceded the race to Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper.
McCrory issued a video statement, saying the state needs to unite behind Cooper moving forward.
"Despite continued questions that should be answered regarding the voting process, I personally believe that the majority of our citizens have spoken, and we now should do everything we can to support the 75th governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper," he said in the statement.

did i miss the recount?
I was wondering about the state legislature's makeup.Sounds like NC has the same kind of thing we have in Massachusetts...a Republican Governor (a RINO,actually) and a state legislature that's about 95% Rat...meaning that Rats are the ones running the state..
Sorry to hear that.
I live in North Carolina and voted for McCrory but his administration so badly screwed up the PR on HB2 that he almost deserved to lose.
Hope Cooper doesn’t turn out to be another Mike Easley.
“First Republican not to get a second Governor term”
That’s not saying much as there’s only been two other republican governors in NC in the past 100 years.
What bullsh!t
Half of us in NC didn’t.
This will only embolden the homo movement if they can pick off a gov in a “red” state.
Sorry to see McCrory lose but it’s not like NC elected Keith Ellison. This is the guy who not only stood up and declared the Duke Lacrosse case over but also went all the way to calling the kids innocent, instead of weaseling his way to saying there was insufficient evidence or something similar. He has shown an independent streak, which might be useful when the Left tries to ram things through in his state. and as someone else noted, the Reps still control the two NC houses.
Except Ol Roy will simply refuse to enforce the law....unless the legislature forces him to do so. He did not defend our constitutional amendment against homosexual marriages, he did not join the fight against zerocare and he actively worked to weaken and denigrate the laws passed by the people of NC because well, he just knew better than all of us...just like all the leftist pukes.
But we do have a strong legislature I hope who ill force his victory to be ephemeral, I hope.
“Then they didn’t do a very good job of it, considering the Republican legislature that passed the law got reelected and still hold a veto proof margin, so that law won’t be going anywhere no matter who the Governor is....”
Cooper as Attorney General refused to defend the HB2 law. No doubt he will do the same as Governor assuming the legislature refuses to repeal the law. Doubtless he will go through the process of trying to force a repeal vote in the legislature. Millions of dollars of out of state money will be used to support the repeal effort as well as lawsuits in federal and state court to have the law struck down by the imperial judiciary. Community activists will descend on the state like locusts making us miserable until one of the Obama appointees to the federal bench strikes down the law or the legislature capitulates.
At least you have the legislature.
Here in NY, I got zilch.
Plus he has to govern as a moderate to have a chance at re-election in 2020. If he kills HB2 unilaterally, for example, and runs on left-wing policies that would sell in NY, he would be creamed.
Thats not saying much as theres only been two other republican governors in NC in the past 100 years.
OMG. I had no idea. Wow. That’s rather depressing and amazing.
Why is it depressing and amazing? Learn some history.
McCrory attended several of the NC Trump rallies. If he’s willing to leave NC for DC, I’m hoping there’s a role in the Trump administration for him.
Depressing in that only 2 Governors were Republican from a Red state. Amazing that we only had two Governors from a Red States. If you can give the entire history of Pennsylvania then perhaps I will learn about the state of North Carolina. I guarantee the political history of North Carolina was NOT taught in grade school, high school, earning my Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree. I guess you live in North Carolina and on an elitist kick.
Elitist kick, coming from someone once prone to bragging on his “wisdom” in going into government work, calling people in the private sector losing their retirements in the crash of 2008 stupid because they weren’t as “wise” as you with your gold-plated pension, bragging on the valuation of your six bedroom house in DC, lol?
You apparently don’t know any Civil War or Reconstruction history, to find the lack of Republican governors in any southern state amazing.
Now, retreat back into your wise DC ignorance.
Go squirt yourself you elitist creep. I am not in the mood for your crap. Stay in your sass pool called North Carolina. I have no interest in learning about that crappy state.
Of course you don’t, that’s fairly evident and has been for years.
