We stopped using real trees when the garbage truck stopped picking them up. You have to load them up yourself and take them to a recycling place for Christmas trees. Too much work.

"She also justified the sky-high price tag — which could pay for 600-plus meals for the homeless at the Bowery Mission

It did pay for the meals and rent and utilities of the families that grew the trees, transported the trees, set-up the trees, etc..

With those prices, it ain’t the trees that are getting flocked.

I’m sure there’s something wrong with this story. Why would anyone pay 1k for a tree?

We stopped using live trees after a fire dept demo of just how fast a dry tree will burn.....

Here, after Christmas, Boy scouts used to collect the dead trees to take to the beach to act as dune anchors. They haven’t done that in years........................

“1,000 dollars in Manhattan is like 100 dollars for everyone else in America. Their net worth and annual salary are extremely high.”

A few years ago my company had a vendor who lived in CT and did biz a couple of days a week in Manhattan. She said between tolls, parking, lunch, taxes and other fees she was paying upwards of $150 day just for the privilege of commuting and working there.

Back when I observed Chr*stm*s; I scored a beautiful tree from a man set up on the roadside in Roan Mountain, TN for a mere ten bucks. A beautiful tree.

A perfect Noble fir here goes for $30 if you cut yourself. Helps to live in a rain forest.

I purchased one just like that two years ago (right after Christmas). It took maybe 15 min to set it up. It replaced another tree we had used for over 15 years. We paid maybe $50 for each one.

Real trees are great in theory, but as a practical matter, artificial trees are a better value for my money. I cant imagine paying over a grand for something that you throw away after using it for a month.

Well, they are paying for the service

She delivers them and sets them up in the house with the stand and tree topper

People in the city, generally don’t have cars, let alone a pick up truck to move a tree. That is what they are paying for.

Break pads and rotors are only like $50 for most cars, and people everyday pay mechanics $200 to $300 per axel to change them.....

No difference here

I remember there were tree lots on Canal Street that were cheap. Christmas is lovely in NYC with all the chestnuts and windows.

If I want to decorate a Christmas tree I will just run an extension cord to one of the thousands growing on the farm, only drawback is most of are between 40 and 100 feet tall.

Ha—I grew up on a farm in a similar situation. Now I’m happy to frame a window and burden some sturdy houseplant with mini-lights on the season—probably because I don’t have any kiddos here.

But I have always like potted and outdoors flowers and plants more than picked or harvested ones doing the slow death before me.
