The secretive teams of Green Berets guiding rebels in northeast Syria have expressed frustration with the amount of micromanagement they receive from a top-heavy headquarters in Iraq and the United States.
Special Forces sources tell of support staff watching the free-spirited Green Berets on reconnaissance aircraft and then criticizing their performance as they conduct the mission officially described as train, advise and assist the multi-ethnic Syrian Democratic Forces. The Americans and SDF are fighting their way toward Raqqa, the Islamic State terrorist armys home base in Syria. Some of the assisting has drawn the Americans into firefights.
One officer chalked up the complaints to the sensitive political situation of U.S. troops on the ground in a chaotic country amid competing groups of Arab, Kurdish and Turkish forces, all converging with different objectives. The Green Berets, known officially as Army Special Forces, must act under strict combat rules after President Obama approved their insertion one year ago.

There’s one thing the Democrats do well....and it seems intentional.
Spend the lives of our special forces without proper support, in “Rambo situations” where they’d likely be outmanned and outgunned....
To weaken the Tip of Our Spear? Carter, Clinton, and now Obozo.
And welcome to the party, WashTimes, we've only known about this for.......ever.
This sort of thing has been going on since well before Obama took office. Bush officials micromanaged the hunt for Bin Laden after the Afghan invasion, so much so that Bin Laden was able to (temporarily) escape.
I’m betting that Gen. Mattis will put an end to all this.
GET THE HELL OUT OF SYRIA!! We have no right in stria anymore that China has a right here!!
Is there some rule that says management competence and the desire to micromanage are inversely proportional? That’s always appeared to be the case to me.
I must have slept through congress declaring war on ISIS in Syria. Why are we there, Obama’s 90 days ran out years ago. Also we were told no boots on the ground, bring them home or declare.
During Operation Eagle Claw, the aborted attempt to rescue the American hostages in Tehran, the Carter people had live TV pictures of the Desert One landing site broadcast to the WH.
It ended up with 4-Star types telling an E-6 on a radio circuit to move an LP 50 meters west, etc.
A total FUBAR.
My rules of engagement.
1: Give the military a mission
2: Have them confirm they can accomplish it and what they need to do so.
3: Give them what they need
4: If you are not sure they can accomplish the mission, don’t send them.
5: Shut up
6: They will call when the mission is accomplished or if they need anything.
7: In the event of any unforeseen circumstances on the diplomatic or home fronts, see rule #5.
“Green Berets in Islamic State fight frustrated with top brass micromanagement”
This headline makes it sound like ISIS has its own Green Berets who are frustrated with ISIS bureaucracy.
Amen
Obama started this mess
What the hell are we doing there!!!!
Get out.
There is no “our side” there.
Islamic civil war. Team Sunni vs Team Shia.
Which side is the one we want to win? Why?
Whichever side wins are not our friends.
Mattis says kill them with confusion, not with my troops
Just KILL THEM and quit this rules of engagement crap!
deja vu, what other past democrap run military ops were micromanaged by the armchair politburos ? ahhh yes lyndon johnson had a period an American aircraft couldn’t drop a bomb if he didn’t personally approve or plan it.
Its an insurgent expedition, if you kill them kill them quietly
Or in a cacophony
“If you want to know how to really wrap field fence around our rear axle, just pick up the phone and give us a call. We’ve been doing it 8 years.”
