Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Congress will act early next year to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care law but delay the changes as Republicans try to come up with an alternative. […]

Speaking in Louisville, McConnell cautioned that the law’s critics “can’t just snap your fingers and go from where we are today to where we’re headed.” He said a replacement to the health care law will be done in a “phased-in way.” …

Even with the phase-in, the effects of its first phases were devastating enough, Watson. The idea is to get rid of it before the other phases can take effect, and reverse the damage from the prior phases.

They won’t go without healthcare. Doctors will want to keep their business alive and will find ways to do so. The Ponzi insurance scams will go by the wayside, though.

Everyone thinks that socialism is really that addictive. I’m one of the ones that does not believe that. Discomfort in poverty will not lead to anarchy unless those at the top allow that to happen so that they can consolidate their power.

“can’t just snap your fingers and go from where we are today to where we’re headed.”

There are deals to be made, foreign junkets to go on, campaign cash to be lined up. Yeah, you can't just go and do something. You need to milk it for what it's worth. There are winners and losers and we need to make sure that the winners pay up.

The little bastard waited to make this announcement until after Trump selected his wife for the cabinet.

Letters of nomination cannot be transmitted until Trump is sworn in. Moreover, even after confirmation, Trump is still free to withhold appointment. It could sit on his desk for a long time waiting for other Senate action to transpire. Mrs. McConnell is a long long way from being Secretary of Transportation.

Silly comment. You may not care about those without insurance, but millions of others do including Trump.

Trump campaigned on repeal and replacement. The repeal is easy on paper, but in practice, the replacement will take years to implement.

Too bad you did not understand that before the election. There have been tons written about replacement options in the past few years. None of it happens overnight and none of it is easy.

It is not going back to the way it was and Trump knows that. They will repeal with a date certain, some years down the road. It was never going to be anything different.

Trump will never endorse an immediate repeal with no replacement.

Agreed. That will take years.

It took me years of acclimatization before I was accostomed to beating my head against a brick wall every 10 seconds for an hour. I can’t just stop. I need government assisted slow withdrawal.

Yes, we disagree, but as this unfolds over the next few months, you will find Congress repeals on paper, but the implementation to the new solution will take a number of years. A train does not immediately stop and stopping Obamacare is a train.

I just gave you the political reality of obamacare. The genie is out of the bottle and government subsidized health care is here to stay. But continue your dreaming if you wish.

yes. but i do not want Congress to “implement a new solution”

I realize that was mentioned in the campaign
but
it is not a proper federal function. (if any additional governmental regulation is necessary it can be done by the states).

anyway that’s just how i see it. i agree that it seems likely congress will (my wording: screw around) attempt more regulation of your personal health and the care they, in their infinite wisdom, decide you may or may not get for yourself

I do not like being a cow in the federal meat herd, so hopefully they will make anything they write Voluntary for the indivdiual citizen to choose yes or no. very hopefully.
we did elect R’s this time. so maybe they will make whatever they attempt a matter for individual citizen choice

Just spoke to a health care executive tonight about repealing the AFA. He says that there is no way congress is going to take health care away from millions who had none before.

They expect some cosmetic changes, but no real roll back. It would be political suicide.

It’s a welfare program, IMO. You can get rid of the mandates and government marketplaces but the subsidies are here to stay. The Dems have blown a huge hole in the fedgov budget creating this entitlement.

If it stays, America is done. Freedom a memory

I’ll go with what Trump and Price has to say, not a senator that is in the clutches of lobbyists

This IMO confirms the rumblings we’ve heard these last few years that the GOPe in Congress had no interest or intention of repealing Obamacare. The public claim of course was that somehow they couldn’t repeal it while Obama was president. Congress was only one third of the federal government, etc..

That Ryan and McConnell lead the House and Senate tells us just how little the GOPe plans to follow through on even what they campaign on.
