There is a massive nine-alarm fire blazing in Cambridge near Berkshire and York Streets.
Nine alarms are the most that can be called. Firefighters from communities well outside the area being called in. Cambridge police are asking that the public avoid the area.
Multiple buildings are on fire, including a church. At least one building has reportedly collapsed.
Fire companies from all corners are on-scene to assist, including from Boston, Newton, Waltham and Wakefield.
I ate there when they had long tables with shoulder-to-shoulder seating, and the Berkowitz’s were still married, and working that lone restaurant.
It’s not there because, IIRC, it burned down.
About 15 years ago my son lived in Boston for a few months. He and his friends rented an apt on Boylston right behind Fenway and right across from the Fens. I went to visit a few times, and was glad to see he was in a big ol brick building, with marble floors. I suppose the interior would go in a flash (wood, no window exits except to jump -I showed him which dumpster to aim for-) but we both loved that apt! Of course, no cooking facilities, by t these were 4 college kids-all had jobs in bars.

That very first Legal Seafoods burned down - guess what - the night they closed down to move to their new location. LOL

Clearly ten comes after nine. I thought they just went to “general”, but I guess I got it wrong.

Yes, fire is easy. My first thought with any crime that seems Islamic, is to blame them. But, in this case, I’ll wait and see. And, btw, Chickensoup, not because some stupid troll is paying attention to my posts. That’s not directed at you but foolish freepers who troll me and accuse me of believing in conspiracy theories.
All those fires? Muzzies? After all, Isis has encouraged jihadists to start fires in America.
I’m not surprised; in fact, it’s what I originally suspected. But we may be wrong. We’ll see.
In the 1970s you could have bought one of those buildings for $30K.
Our son lives a block and a half away from there. He called this morning before there was any major news about it to tell us he was safe. Just talked to him again ... he can’t go home tonight. There is too much smoke in the air and the streets around there are flooded. Power is still out too. Thankfully he has lots of friends there so he can crash until tomorrow.
We may have sat shoulder to shoulder all those years ago! Hope I didn’t get any lemon juice on ya!
Well it’s gonna get gentrified now. This is just a little urban renewal in action.
My son lives in that green townhouse in the middle on the right. He is not going home tonight because of the smoke and flooded streets.
They dont have any idea how it started. It happened in daylight which helped fight it and no fatalities. Historically only 3 or 4 10 alarm fires in Cambridge in 40 years.
