China has lodged a protest over Donald Trump’s conversation with Taiwan’s Tsai Ing-wen, the first between a US president or president-elect and a Taiwanese leader since 1979. Beijing urged the US to stick to the “one China” policy to avoid wrecking ties.
Trump and Tsai spoke over the phone for more than 10 minutes, discussing issues related to economic development and strengthening national defense, Focus Taiwan reported, citing the Presidential Office.
Tsai also reportedly voiced hope that Washington would lend Taipei “more participation and contributions on international issues.”

Trump is still a private citizen. He makes the calls he wants to make. What he just did was to send a very clear message to China — All options are on the table. All of them. He will be president soon. He will be negotiating with China, as president. All options are on the table.

Trump will illustrate just how cowed the US has been all these years by foreign governments.

President elect is not an office despite Obamas cheesy logo. And the logan act is not violated by someone taking a congratulatory phone call. Nothing was negotiated.
The logan act does not prevent a citizen from merely interacting with any foreigner, including a foreign leader.
