Sarah Palin is criticizing President-elect Donald Trumps deal with Carrier, even as she is reportedly under consideration to serve as Trump's secretary of Veterans Affairs.
In a op-ed in Young Conservatives published Friday, the former Alaska governor first expresses excitement for the Carrier employees whose jobs are staying in Indiana. What a relief for hundreds of workers, she wrote. Merry Christmas Indiana!
But she goes onto to blast the deal as crony capitalism" and an example of the "hallmark of corruption" and "socialism."
When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent, Palin wrote. Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember?
Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is on big fail.

Which is exactly the right approach.
...it is Pence extending the tax break and all governors go out and lure businesses to their own states with numerous incentives.
Across the board tax cuts are good. Targeted tax cuts are not.
My post was definitely not directed your way, so screw you.
Each payroll dollar from those 1,000 jobs will generate about $8.00 into the economy.
Assuming $30,000 average payroll, that would put roughly $240,000 x 1,000 or $240,000,000 PER YEAR into the economy.

The `subsidies` promised are 10 years worth of tax breaks that amount to about a miilion a year. And they are on the state level. No federal tax breaks were given as far as I know. This deal is a bit different than future deals in that Trump had less leverage than he will have when he gets legislation passed that will impose a 35% tariff in future situations like this.
With the carrot and stick of the 35% penalty and lower taxes and regulations, such consessions will likely not be necessary in the future. This is why Trump will be sucessful. He is practical and got the best deal possible under the circumstances. The purists would rather forgo a good deal if it`s not perfect, even if it`s the best that was available.
Trump could have kept these jobs in America even with out the tax break. Keeping them in Indiana was a different story and was between Carrier and the state of Indiana. Indiana made their decision, which was theirs to make.
The $7 million in tax breaks wasn't a "threat". True, it came from Indiana via Mike Pence rather than the U.S. via Trump, but it is still an out-and-out subsidy from the Indiana taxpayers.
Are any other Indiana employers eligible for a comparable tax cut?
If not, it counts as "corporate cronyism".
Makes for great political theatre! So sick of all the crazy wacko leftist BS!
I like Sarah but I think she is wrong on this issue. 8 years of Obama and his regulations plus the EPA has made the business climate sour for most companies in this country.
The $7 million over 10 years was already on the table from the state of Indiana. I think Trump’s promise cutting back on the regulations and the EPA is most likely what put this thing over the top. In this case I would not call it “crony capitalism” as Trump will wind up doing this for all the companies.
Not really, I dont think. Tax breaks for individual companies to induce them to do what government wants is not a conservative thing to do.
Its not surprising that Trump did it, hes more of a populist and not particularly conservative economically, hes got a lifetime history of government/business entanglements.
Its nice that Sarah is willing to say what she believes and not be worried about what Trump will think.
...
Trump is a macro and micro Business man...that said, perhaps Trump simply showed them the pro business administration plans including tax cuts and how that would improve their bottom line. That isn’t cronyism if all companies will benefit.
You’re blinkered and NUTS!
PROVE IT!
She and Coulter need to just STFU right now; we're winning and winning and winning and Trump hasn't even taken the oath of office yet !
Palin is of course completely correct on this.
I am however surprised to hear her saying it out loud.
She is completely correct that this is indeed crony capitalism. When favored companies get tax dollars, they are tax dollars taken from others—so those who aren’t favored get a double whammy.
Any business could claim special tax breaks by your logic, but that’s the thing about special tax breaks—they only go to the “winners” chosen by the pols in office.
Yes, crony capitalism is theft and slavery to take money from others and give it to certain favored businesses. It is selling out the employees of every company not so favored by government.
The only kind of playing field that we should allow and support is a level playing field.
The tax structure should be changed to favor all American companies—not just those who threaten to ship jobs overseas.
But yeah—it is noteworthy that she is saying this. I wonder if she lost out on the VA job.
Avalon you are right she picks fights that don’t need to be fought. Sarah wastes too much energy going the wrong way.
This always happens! Our side cannot stand victory! Why can’t our people and pundits just shut up for a few months and let us get some stuff done. The Democrats always stick by their people and get their junk passed, but we have to go out and be a purist over something. Can’t we just enjoy winning for a few months Sarah? I like you but you are no Trump.
“...crony capitalism is theft and slavery...”
Yep, it is so much better to fire all the workers and move the jobs to Mexico. Then, that way, we can maintain our purity.
Damn, it was so evil of Trump to stop that.
She didn’t bash him!
