Why give the media and Democrats (redundant) so much time to dig up dirt and come up with a battle plan? Why not announce the pick one week (or days) before confirmation hearings? As far as I know there is nothing that says you have to give any certain amount of time between nomination and confirmation hearings.

Republicans are in charge now. Ram the selection through in a matter of days!

I agree. The the less time they have to Bork/Thomas the candidate the better.

Because after the Left goes through their motions now, Trump will get inaugurated and all the arguments will already be heard and Congress will nominate him/her. And that's checked off Trump's list.
