Meh, no skin off my teepee if they want so badly to rename it. It’s strange it didn’t bear the name of the tribe there, actually. It’s not a formally organized county, anyhow, and has no county seat (business is done in the adjacent county of Fall River). Both Dakotas created more counties than should’ve been and they had to dissolve some of them when some were in areas that hardly had people.

It’s noted that Shannon/Oglala Lakota is the poorest county in the nation. A premier example of what happens when the government “takes care” of you.

Yes, some states have too many counties. Some Nebraska (or was it Kansas, maybe both) counites IIRC are so small and Republican that they have no local rat party. ;D

As for the name, I’m tired of them playing the victim card, Peter Shannon hoodwinked us waa waa waa. Ogala? If it was just Lakota county ok, but Ogala? Odingo? Obama?

Shannon county.

Sears Tower.

Bombay, India.

William Jefferson Blythe

Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali)

Lew Alcindor

Now and forever!

Oklahoma has a large Indian population...but no Indian reservations.

The economic (and cultural) lot of the non-reservation Indian is far, far ahead of the reservation Indian.
