PARIS — President François Hollande stunned France on Thursday when he announced that he would not run for a second term in next year’s presidential election.

In a televised address from the Élysée Palace, Mr. Hollande said that he was “aware of the risks” of a candidacy that would not “rally” enough people to it.

“I have thus decided not to be a candidate in the presidential elections,” Mr. Hollande said.

Mr. Hollande, a Socialist, ended weeks of speculation about his intentions to participate in a re-election bid that few observers thought he could win. He has had some of the worst approval ratings for a president in modern French history...

President François Hollande stunned France on Thursday...........

Baloney!France was NOT “stunned.” They expected him to pull out. Only a couple of weeks ago he was faced with the threat pf destitution...( impeachment.)Francois Hollande was cooked well done. All of my French friends were dead set against him running again. His popularity was at the bottom of the tank and he knew he had zero chance. Either Fillon or LePin will be the next president of France.

He is so unpopular you wouldn’t believe it. NOBODY in France likes Hollande.

But yet, they still insist on voting for Socialists.

Sarkozy has become quite the Globalist promoter here lately, as though he has jumped on the USS AlGore now slowly sinking under it’s own weight of mythology and presumption.

I’ve been quite surprised by the change in Sarkozy. Seems to be total.

You infer they always vote for socialists. Excuse me, but Giscard D’Estang, De Gaulle, Chirac, Sarkozy, were not socialists. Mitterand and Hollande yes. Seems to me that’s 4 to 2 for the right wing. This coming election is going to be won by the right. Only question is how far to the right.
