Mexico disappointed at Carrier agreement to keep jobs in US

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Officials in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon expressed disappointment Wednesday at Carrier Corp.'s announcement it will keep hundreds of jobs in the United States rather than send them south of the border.

Carrier said it had made a deal with President-elect Donald Trump to keep the jobs at its plant in Indiana.

Carrier currently operates one plant in Nuevo Leon and has built but not yet occupied another one there as part of a planned $200 million expansion.

"The implications are very serious, not only for Nuevo Leon, but for Carrier," Sen. Marcela Guerra said.

"The one who is going to suffer from this is the company ... because their products are going to be more expensive," she added.

Still, Guerra said she could understand Trump's fight to save U.S. jobs. "I understand the fight, because it is the same fight all we politicians carry out."

At a news conference, the mayor of Santa Catarina, the Monterrey suburb where the Carrier plant is, said he had not heard from the company.

"We haven't received any formal notification from the company. In fact, we are working normally with them," Mayor Hector Castillo said, adding that Carrier has already constructed the shell of the new factory building.

Monterrey, Santa Catarina and much of Nuevo Leon was gripped four years ago by a wave of drug cartel violence and killings. But the situation has calmed, in part because of greater law enforcement efforts but also because of increased job availabilities at new businesses, such as a new Kia Motors auto plant, that have opened nearby.

"By offering people working conditions that allow them to look after their families' welfare, they have been kept to some extent busy and on the road to progress" and away from illicit activities, said Jaime Garcia, director for economic development of Santa Catarina.

Like any city, Santa Catarina "would be grateful" for Carrier's jobs, Garcia said.

He declined to comment on Trump's effort, saying: "We are respectful but we keep our distance from the president-elect's policies."

Officials in the union for Carrier's Mexican workers could not be reached for comment. Calls to the union's offices went unanswered.

How many times do we have to tell these people, there’s no need to provide endorsements for Trump, the election is over!

It is ABOUT DARNED TIME, that America had a champion in trade.

Our own side, has been selling us out, forever.

Both parties.

They must see our jobs going to Mexico as an entitlement.

The Uniparty has been selling out the American worker for decades.

Trump’s campaign honestly sounded a lot like Pat Buchanan’s back in the 90s. Buchanan said NAFTA would cost millions of Americans their jobs and he was right. He also ran as a nationalist.

The MSM called him a ‘right wing racist’ and he lost to the globalist Herbert Walker Bush.

That left us essentially on a wrong track for a generation (Clintonx2, George W., Obama). 20 trillion in debt, tens of millions of lost jobs, invasion of illegals.

The MSM is ‘looking for the downside’ in EVERY win Trump gets. It’s actually amusing.

It’s racist not to give Mexico our jobs.

As Joe Biden said, “We’re all Americans.”

They must see our jobs going to Mexico as an entitlement.

They see our jobs here as an entitlement as well, it just makes for a longer commute...

HERE IS HOPING IT IS JUST THE FIRST IN A LONG LINE OF DISAPPOINTMENTS FOR MEXICO!!!!

I have no problems with the mexicans that come here legally through the system. They are honest enough to respect our immigration laws and it bodes well for them that they may also respect our other laws too.

For those folks, welcome, you did it the right way.

Not illegals. ANd also time to end this dual citizenship crap which was never supported in our constitution. You either have allegience to the new country or the old. None of this halfway tag-back crap.

I’d say Mexico is just now starting to get warmed up to being disappointed. Better get used to it.

Wait’ll they see the wall going up.

If they were good neighbors that respected their neighbor, we would not need it.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigration either.

LEGAL. And from countries where we want the people to be here - those that want to work and contribute, not kill us.

Illegal is just a Chamber of Commerce tactic to depress wages.

Want a 15 an hour wage? Deport the illegals.

Both parties have sold out the average American and we are onto it and to their lying media.

MAGA!

It was Trump being elected or taking on D.C. with pitchforks and fire. They’re lucky they got off easy!

20% of the GDP of Mexico is remittances. CASH coming out of our economy sent down there.

Western Union doesn’t consider Mexico a foreign country for their rates in sending money. 20% of their economy.

Add in another 20% likely from the illegal drug trade the wall will stop.

Mexico is about to tank big time and they know it.

They better pay for that wall.... it might get 10 feet higher.

Next time someone moans about it, ask them about their neighbors. Do they let their neighbors walk all over their property, take dumps in their yard, steal things from their yard, go into their houses and use their stuff, take stuff, conduct business from your yard or house, have your neighbor say that they are entitled to do all this to your yard and house because you are better off than them and they just want to make some money for their family,....?

Or would you put a fence up to keep them off your property they won’t stay off of after you’ve told them to, to protect your family and your stuff from people who do not respect your rights?
