I’m a me-first kind of budgeter. Living on a fixed income does that. I really object to overpaying for goods, especially from places that produce them with slave labor, and then having the money go for pet projects of the elite.

Yes, what you said. Also I will 99.9% of the time (only if the “me first” criteria are otherwise met) NOT buy something for which the seller or manufacturer promises to donate something to charity for every item sold. I prefer to select my own charities to receive any of my funds, and am not motivated by an offer for corporate retailers to make those decisions for me.
