Largest all-female expedition braves Antarctica to fight inequality, climate change
By Umberto Bacchi
LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - The largest all-female expedition to Antarctica, comprising 76 scientists, is due to set sail from Argentina on Friday in a quest to promote women in science and highlight the impact of climate change on the planet.
The international team will brave sub-zero temperatures to undergo a 20-day bootcamp on the frozen continent aimed at developing their leadership skills and challenging male dominance of senior scientific roles.
Women make up only 28 percent of the world's researchers and are particularly under-represented at senior levels, the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) says.
Yet greater female leadership is needed to fight climate change, which disproportionately affects women, according to Fabian Dattner, co-founder of the Antarctica initiative, Homeward Bound.
"Mother Nature needs her daughters," said Dattner, an Australian entrepreneur and leadership coach.

Did they shave their pubic hair into a likeness of Hillary Clinton in her honor? That seems to be a thing these days, among crazy cat ladies who remain marginally attached to the labor force.

Not a bunch of topless photos again in cold goosebumpy weather. My hunch is, you do not want topless shots of this bunch, no way, no how.

Back in college (engineering school) there were lots of guys that looked down on the women going there. It didn’t bother me - and I always treated them nicely - “Heck, someday one of them might be my boss!”
That said, I’m not sure the way to inspire women to get into the sciences is “Become a scientist, and win a 20-day trip in subzero temperatures.”
I know back in the day I always wanted to get to Antarctica (friends did), but now - not so much.
I wonder, after their 20-days there if they won’t be in favor of a little more global warming?

Based on the description, this expedition has nothing to do with advancing science.

76 women working together on a project. That’ll go smoothly, everyone knows how they are so cooperative in the workplace.

"undergo a 20-day bootcamp on the frozen continent aimed at ... challenging male dominance of senior scientific roles" So, these 76 females are training to kick the asses of male senior scientists, you know to "challenge" their "male dominance? I had no idea that competing scientists got so physically violent towards one another. I had always visualized competing scientists challenging each other at chalk boards, trying to prove their competing theories with facts and figures and diagrams and mathematics and such. Well, silly me. Still, sounds like it might make a good TV show; maybe some kind of fighting ring with a male and female scientist kicking the crap out of each other, and the winner advancing to the next round. Lots of Vietnamese guys smoking cheap cigarettes while surrounding the fight ring and screaming obscenities and slapping down piles of money as they place bets, you know, sort of like this:

No science. Just politics. Some day I’m glad to be old and about to go. This crap is so counterproductive to science, pushing it out of the back seat.

We will never tire of this as long as leftist loons with disposable income — and, of course, the U.S. government — keep funding the people we are so incredibly tired of.

I thought it disproportionately affects minorities and children, not so much women. Oh well, what do I know.. I'm not a "climate scientist".
