Donald Trumps interview Tuesday with Rep. Michael T. McCaul for secretary of homeland security set off alarms for illegal immigration opponents who view the congressman as weak on border security and latently pro-amnesty.
Mr. McCaul, Texas Republican and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has repeatedly riled conservatives with what they describe as ineffective posturing against President Obamas lax enforcement of immigration laws.
His chief offense was co-authoring the 2015 Secure Our Borders First Act, which conservatives and activists reviled as a fig leaf to Democrats that included tough language but ignored the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. and kept too much decision-making in the hands of the Obama administration.

Filling his admin with the GOPe in the key spots will be the undoing of his admin.
I want Sheriff Clarke in that slot!
Trolling for reactions or did you forget the “/sarc” notation?
House vacancies are only filled by election.
Stab in the back how exactly ? Cabinet secretaries serve at the pleasure of the President. They do not formulate laws, and if they fail to follow the President’s policy he fires them. That would send the appropriate message to the BP and the establishment RINOs.
Yes, but Senate vacancies are filled by Governors. And the House seat remaining vacant for 6 months is better than having an obstructionist filling it.
Good grief. I wonder what Trump is thinking. Gads.
“He has designs on Ted Cruzs Senate seat, and that would give Texas two weak senators, he and Cornyn. Texas ought to do better than that.”
Give you two weak Senators? You already have two weak Senators. Cornyn and Scruze. Clornyn is just an ineffective GOPer. Scruze, OTOH takes that a step further by pi$$ing off the entire Senate on top of being ineffective!
He pisses off the entire Senate for all the right reasons. He’s not trying to “make nice” with the leftist enemy.
Trump has repeatedly said “we’ll see what to do about the non-violent 11 million who are here later.”
The “deport them all” position was abandoned months ago. So this man might be the guy Trump wants to implement his plan for these illegals, since Trump has made it clear over and over again, as recently as on 60 minutes after the election, that he will not be deporting them.
And that makes him ineffective. Pissing off your adversaries there is a recipe for becoming a back bencher. In "other news," he's still an illegal alien who should be removed from office. I thought Texans were proud of being Texans, and so I am left wondering why you would elect a carpetbagger from Canada who isn't at least a second-generation "Texan?" A friend of mine from Abilene once told me there are Texans and Cotexans. Is that true?
He’s like Ron Paul. Likes to talk, gets nothing done
The plan always was to go after employment so that most would self deport

This is disappointing, to say the least.
Terrorists have possession of nuclear material (via Iran) to make a dirty bomb. With the border wide open, it is probably already in the country. When will the abuse stop? Trump better keep his promises on illegals.
McCaul would be a travesty in this position. If Trump is serious about his campaign promises it should be someone like Tancredo or Kobach.
Get teh guy out of Congress.
This is the clown so many people here want to run as the “real conservative” candidate for Texas Senator. Of course, those people have CDS.
