After a dinner meeting with Donald Trump at Jean-Georges restaurant in New York, Mitt Romney delivered a glowing review of the president-elect’s leadership during the transition.

Mr. Romney, who was invited to the dinner purportedly for a follow-up interview for the job of secretary of state, described it as a “wonderful evening” and said that he was “impressed” with Mr. Trump’s handling of his upset victory in the election.

“We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I’ve had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging,” Mr. Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, told reporters outside the restaurant.

Mr. Romney said that from what he’s seen of Mr. Trump’s leadership during the transition, he was optimistic that “America’s best days are ahead of us.

Spot on.

SOS is mostly about Pomp and Circumstance internationally and Romney pulls that off well. POTUS calls all the shots anyway. The position is eye candy on an international stage and Rudy doesn’t bring it.

The heavy lifting in this adminstraton will come legislatively and Trump will need the whole mixed multitude to make serious changes. Rinos must be on board to get it done.

Good point.

I think it comes down to this. Trump has decided in his head who he wants. He obviously wants Romney. He has staff imploding over it. He chooses the guy anyway.

It comes down to Trump will pick the best guy for the job. He might be wanting to see if Romney will convince him, that he’ll be loyal.

Trump might be posturing to consoloidate the party by reminding mitt that if trump is re-elected & succeded by pence, whatever trump offers mitt will be the highest most prestigious federal office he’ll ever have the oppportunity to hold.

All making sense, but you also have a smart guy with Patraeus and Trump knows this.

I think behind closed doors, Trump is vastly impressed with people him and Newt and maybe even Romney, and of course athe mony guys.

I don’t think Rudy impresses him that much other than in the political and home security sense he probably does.

I think you put Rudy in a position to over see Homeland Cyber security. Giving him SOS is like giving it to Kerry.

INterviewing these guys teaches Trump also, on things.

In the end, we have no choice but to trust Trump’s judgement on this.

Obviously it’s hard for us out here who elected him to “Drain the Swamp” to understand how putting one of the most powerful swamp creatures of all into the SoS position is going to help accomplish that.

If Trump wants to look us in the eyes and say Romney has turned his coat and is willing to help reduce the size and corruption of government (reducing his own power and influence and through Trumps own actions so far eliminating lobbyists which would affect the Utah mormons ability to influence Washington in the future) ... well... I personally won’t believe it. It’ll require the hard long term proof.

But let’s see. Trump has traditionally not done what everyone expects. It seems mighty convenient to dangle Romney in front of the media. It could simply be a very large distraction for the MSM from everything else he is doing.

I’m beginning to think so. Listening to Romney heap praise on Pres Elect Trump after their meeting (though I thoroughly enjoyed it) was actually a little uncomfortable to watch in light of everything Romney said earlier in the year. He looked small and sad.

Imagine that.

A RINO gets a seat at the table and now all is well.

It’s T’s instinct that has won him the presidency. I trust that instinct. He is the only man who could beat the Clinton machine.

Needs repeating! But I despise Romney over his UNNECESSARY and SELF SERVING and vile anti-trump speech during the primaries.

Plus when we sat and watched Romney slice and dice a woefully unprepared Obama in their first debate, he had Obama down on the mat. One more round house and he would have been gone.

Then Romney went all deer in headlights in the second as the Candy Crowley CNN support wagon interjected herself and a bucket full of lies and Romney could not answer the bell on the already known facts of Benghazi. Romney was not prepared at all to counter it and he jut laid down on the canvas and waited for the count.

That mealy-mouthed statement he gave after dinner was just words, no passion or drive of purpose.

Trump must feel the same inside as Julius Caeser did when he pardoned his opponents after he defeated the Senatorial forces. Trump has shown Romney is no beacon of political morality and integrity. Romney will turn on the dime if that means power. Romney is no Cato the Younger. If I remember right, someone on the inside of the Romney camp or GOPe claimed that Romney actually thought he has so much swagger with the GOP voters that his speech where he condemned Trump would derail his campaign. The insider claimed Romney was shocked his speech was meet by a collective yawn.

David Brooks, Bill Kristol, and some other MSM ‘conservatives’ were also shocked that their disapproval didn’t sink Trump. They really believed that millions of people would bow to their superior wisdom!

The State Department is far left, anti-American and will never change. Whoever goes in there for real change will be eaten alive. Romney is an approval suck...remember Romneycare? He also avoided all confrontation with the opposition during his election run.
