Kellyanne Conway skeptical of Mitt Romney

Kellyanne Conway, President-elect Trump’s campaign manager, is publicly discouraging her boss from naming Mitt Romney as secretary of state.

Conway, a top transition adviser to Trump, tweeted Thursday that she’s receiving a “deluge” of comments about Romney — and then linked to a Politico story about Trump loyalists opposing the former Massachusetts governor’s nomination.

“Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state,” Conway tweeted.

In a follow-up tweet, she suggested that loyalty was an important criteria for the top diplomatic post.

“Kissinger & Schultz as Secs of State flew around the world less, counseled POTUS close to home more. And were loyal. Good checklist,” she said.

Conway’s public skepticism demonstatres the internal tug of war over the secretary of state’s slot. .

A Trump insider said Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and Reince Priibus, the Republican National Committee chairman tapped to become the White House chief of staff, are pushing Romney.

But Trump senior counselor and strategist Stephen Bannon and Conway oppose Romney, a source familiar with the discussions said.

The other leading candidate is former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

During the campaign, Romney was an outspoken critic of Trump, describing him as a “con artist” who was temperamentally unfit to be president.

To me he is like a leaf blowing in the wind. Not a bad man, but just one that has a firm foundation so don’t want a loser in a vital position.

While I accept the accounts from others that Romney is a genuinely decent man, AFAIK, he never has defended liberty and the free market anywhere as much as he needs to in order to rollback the progressive wave.

His “RomneyCare” is a socialistic plan. That alone in my mind disqualifies him from any role in a (R) administration. It is not a matter that I have a long memory and still want to punish him. It is not a matter of punishment. It is a matter that anyone who understands the essential role of the free market should know how much liberty and prosperity that RomneyCare and ObamaCare will destroy.

I think it’s possibly useful but not necessary. I understand their reasoning though.

At the same time, KT has spent plenty of time in the field of foreign affairs and knows how “the international community “ works. She is no stranger to global shenanigans.

I think she’d represent us and the president and OUR interests.I fear Mitt would represent Mitt. And Ryan, etc. There will be enough challenges for this administration without creating one.

Good summary except I just don’t sense Kellyanne is on the lib side of the equation. She’s been a culture war conservative since the ‘90s. And it doesn’t take much reading between the lines to see she’s opposed to the Romney nomination. Also, she backed Cruz before switching to Trump. A RINO/establishment type wouldn’t align with Cruz. She also backed Newt in the 2012 primary.
