While meeting with the New York Times yesterday for an on-the-record interview, President-elect Donald Trump stated that the president cannot have conflicts of interest and that the law was on his side. This comes in response to numerous concerns over Trump using his position to further enrich himself and his personal businesses.
During a discussion on CNN this morning, former White House lawyer Richard Painter made the case that if it appears that Trump will be in violation of the emolument clause of the Constitution, then the Electoral College must decide to not vote for him next month.
After he and fellow guest Jan Baran agreed that there isnt an actual law that prevents Trump from being involved in his businesses while in the White House but that it does present numerous ethical issues, Painter said that he informed Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway of concerns around the emolument clause.

As these people are unacquainted with the concept of “truth” as we know it any time they speak whether they are telling the truth or lying is purely incidental and has nothing to do with intentions. The truth is what they say it is because they say it.
“it does present numerous ethical issues”
And Hillary would not have presented all kinds of ethical issues.
Obama was an example of ethics on display.
I knew these dimwads were suddenly going to be all concerned about the rule of law and the USC once Trump is President.
The do have the word “loose” but not the word “lose” in their lexicon.
“(The clause states that no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.)”
He must think that Trump will give gifts to himself and bribe himself with his own money.
This is just like the primaries. They were so worried that Trump would run as 3rd party if he lost primary that they made him make an agreement which NeverTrumper establishments jerks broke.
Now the General election. They tried to pull the same crap. How many days did the media and democrat and GOPe spew about Trump having to respect the outcome of the election.
I’m more for Trump than ever.
just call it an advance for an upcoming book
As long as political insiders use their office to enrich themselves, it’s ok.
I seriously doubt George Washington put Mount Vernon into a “blind trust” on assuming the presidency.
You are correct. The attempts at brainwashing by the establishment media are becoming brazen.
Excuse me, but I think maybe the COUNSEL had best think back to Jeb being Gov. of Fla. when the hi jackers came in America...and then they need to think about Saudi who they are in bed with that fly into our buildings and PA....and then they need to think about their drug smuggling with another FORMER POTUS in Arkansas...and then there was the questions of what GHWB was doing in Dallas the day that JFK was shot...and what ties did they have in New Orleans???
Yeah I would think the COUNSEL should shut their mouths, their closets are full of bones!!!
Don’t want to hear from the Clintons and Bushes, or anyone associated with them, ever again.
America would be better off if anyone and everyone associated with the Bushes were shipped off to Gitmo.
I wonder if Herbert Hoover had any active business interests upon becoming President? Would be worth knowing, perhaps.
"Loose" isn't the problem.
I'd give anything for posters here to have the word "LOSE" in their lexicon.
Sorry, pet peeve.
You mean like Hillary was, and Obama likely still is?
Neither do the anti Brexit people.
Same old types who think they know better.
This may be the first time since Washington that we elected a President who actually HAD business interests. Or, in the case of #44, even knew what a business is.
I guess I am confused. If a guy who is (p)resident, pays someone to write a fake book, sells it for millions playing off his new found instant popularity - that is super.
If a SoS solicits $100m’s for themselves from companies and foreign governments while having official business with those entities, and the result is very favorable for those entities - that is super.
If Trump maintains his real estate based business - that is bad.
I don’t get it.
Trump should do what the Kennedys did in 1960. Didnt the family divest all their possessions and go on welfare so John could he president?
