Former Governor Romney was one of Donald Trump’s harshest critics during the election. He assisted his opponents and was essentially working to get Hillary Clinton elected.

Donald Trump met with Mitt Romney in New Jersey last week. Sources said he was interviewing for the Secretary of State position with the Trump administration.

Trump supporters HATE the idea.

Now this… Transition Team sources told Ed Henry from FOX News that Mitt Romney is preparing a public apology. Mitt Romney is reportedly very interested in the Secretary of State job.

I don’t really see this as about Romney per se. It’s more about consolidating the GOP under President Trump’s leadership. We can’t afford to have the Romney wing GOP people sitting it out long term. A lot of races to be won and that will take big bucks.

I see - you were speaking from last month’s Romney perspective.

Agreed. Romney is kowtowing to what he had reviled.

Not my perspective

OH!

So you actually meant:

Why is he so anxious to go around the world spewing "Trump’s ridiculous foreign policy" ? (Mitt Romney, July 2016)

Not how this works. The campaign was about something. It wasn’t just about getting power. It was about changing policy and culture in that corrupt town. The foreign policy that Trump ran on is vastly different than the foreign policy that Mittens wants. Moreover, the campaign from a Republican perspective was over in July and Mittens couldn’t stop going on CNN trashing the nominee so please talk to him about letting “the campaign” go. Also, I go back to the point, If Trump is so bad why does Romney want to be the one to drive home “dangerous” policies. Newt is right on this, Romney will be Romney’s SOS not Trumps. He is not trust worthy. What’s more, the people who are pushing for Romney (The joe scarboroughs, and cnn’s of the world trashed him in 2012, why are they now so anxious to see him in that position). We fought against policies that he espouses, to just hand it over to him now is pathetic and quite frankly shows that maybe Trump isn’t a man of his word like I had hoped. I can only pray that this is just the media doing what the media does and doesn’t actually reflect Trump’s thinking

I don't think there's a Romney wing. If there is, it couldn't lift Romney even at his peak. I say let the past be past.

Gov. Romney is talented and qualified

No! Just no. It's one thing for someone to disagree with a candidate and withhold support. It's quite another to do what Romney did. He came out with a vicious screed during the primary season, then worked as hard as he could to try to prevent Trump from winning the primaries and being successful in the general election.

There are ways to bring people together. This is not one of them. Besides, if Romney now comes out and apologizes (grovels) he shows himself to be 100% unprincipled and desperate for power and relevance. That would make him a weak Secretary of State.

The names like Petraeus and Corker are worse in my opinion. Trump sees Bolton as too much the neocon, but he is the most real-politic of the bunch if he will follow the lead of the President.

Accept the apology and then tell Mittens to go pound sand!

I don’t see that Romney has any base whatsoever in the Republican Party. He is free to make contributions but the next election certainly isn’t going to be a referendum on Mittens or his non existent policies.

All Romney had to bring to the table back in 2012, was that he was not Obama.

I'd rather see, barf, puke, John McCain as Sec State.

In fact, there ya go. The answer to getting him out of the Senate, and under the thumb of Trump.

Maybe he’ll apologize and grovel and trump will then select someone else.

I took Mitt Romney's efforts to throw the presidential election to the globalist democrat party personally. He was bent on delivering this Republic to enemies within this country and world wide and did all he could to make it happen. He is not to be trusted in this new administration apology or not. All the cliches aside, such as keep the enemy close etc are just that. Meaningless. Romney wants this job for some reason that benefits him. He has shown that this Republic is not his priority. Leave the Secy of State position open until an American Firster with an appreciation for what this country is can be reliably selected.

Very well stated. I would only add that it is a fact that Mittens is so jealous of Trump that he can’t see straight.

Gov. Romney (who I actively supported once he got the R nomination in 2012, but he blew/threw that election when even Obama expected to lose it and was packing his bags to leave the WH)....

IF Romney just happened to lose the 2016 nomination to Mr Trump, I would not object to including him in the new administration. But after we nominated Mr. Trump, Romney worked actively criticizing Trump and tried to defeat him (and thus elect HilLIARy). This is, imho, unforgiveable.

Romney has disqualified himself from serving in the administration by showing he cannot be trusted. And he has no extra=special foreign policy expertise or accomplishments, either. There are many other good Americans who do.

I I understand and agree. It is past time for new blood instead of the old, tired retreaded retreads who fought Reagan.

How about all those veterans from the past thirty years almost of sand wars? Young people who have been betrayed or held back by the existing system to dismantle the existing system?

Trump has an opportunity to identify to identify and cultivate new, real talent. There is no need to go looking for old, shopworn tat at the thrift store like Willard.
