The Electoral College Was Meant to Stop Men Like Trump From Being President
The Atlantic ^ | November 21, 2016 | Peter Beinhart

Americans talk about democracy like it’s sacred. In public discourse, the more democratic American government is, the better. The people are supposed to rule.

But that’s not the premise that underlies America’s political system. Most of the men who founded the United States feared unfettered majority rule. James Madison wrote in Federalist 10 that systems of government based upon “pure democracy … have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property.” John Adams wrote in 1814 that, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself.”

Apparently this guy is not up on the MSM mantra about how Hillary won the popular vote.

“Peter the Gay is pretty dumb with this lie......everyone knows it’s the opposite!”

Pete has no talent and has to glom onto other libs to gain attention. He is obviously used to sucking up.

They are going bat sh*t crazy! I cannot wait to see what they do when he actually starts implementing his agenda and shoving Obama’s pen up its owners’ posterior.

Fair enough,Pete...amend the Constitution.A two-thirds vote by the House *and* Senate followed by approval by 38 state legislatures will do it.

Easy peasy!

TRUMP stated in an offhand way to Leslie Stahl, who I
found quite disrespectful, that HE would have won it in
any event BECAUSE he played by the rules and campaigned by
the rules.

The Electoral College was designed by the brilliant
Founders to prevent people such as THE CLINTONS from
seizing power and initiating a CLINTON DYNASTY.

“The people are supposed to rule. “.........

They did rule when they voted to elect Trump as POTUS, and passed the official responsibility onto the electoral college. Now it is their turn to make it official and no amount of resistance or irregularities should be permitted.

The electoral college works as intended.

The Democrats and George Soros loved the Electoral College right up until they lost the election

Soros predicted a popular vote win for Donald Trump, but an Electoral College win for Hillary Clinton

It did not turn out that way and now the Democrats sore losers are agitating for the abolition of the Electoral College.

Looks like voters voting 10 times each for Hillary Clinton in some states can't swamp voters voting once for Trump in other states

Today when Rush was discussing the “Hamilton” a-holes, he said they’d be surprised to know that it was Alexander Hamilton who “invented” the concept of the Electoral College.

The one world government Progressive Movement uses mob ruled-democracy to control the state powers stolen by the corrupt Washington cartel.

This is why the Progressive Movement successfully pushed for mob control of the Senate as evidenced by the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, that amendment arguably a major step n repealing the whole Constitution imo.

The Progressive Movement is now trying to finish the job of repealing the Constitution by getting control of the electoral college to insure mob control of POTUS.

...it was meant to stop states like NY and California....

Especially California. Read the debates at the Constitutional Convention or The Federalist Papers. Full of fretting about California.

Of course northern California rightfully belonged to Virginia, until the Treaty of Paris in 1763 ended England's territorial claims at the Mississippi River.

I don't think they foresaw block voting by electors, which is what gives California and New York such importance now. Rather they thought men were not likely to know much about politicians in other states so would be likely to vote for men from their home state...which is why the electors had to cast at least one of their two votes for someone not from their own state.

The Framers built better than they knew.

Agree. I take every opportunity to inject the fact that we are a Republic into conversations. The idea of democracy is thrown around in common conversation and especially by media so often that the populace is dumbed down to the difference between a Republic and a democracy. So many people will respond, “it’s the same thing.” This is a falsehood perpetrated by socialism to destabilize our Republic and take over.

I know you probably feel the same way...I have to sometimes bite my tongue, because I hear people say “democracy” and I have to accept they often know what they are trying to say, but are being imprecise or lazy.

A lot of people use it interchangeably, and as you said...it isn’t!
