Trump has a plan for government workers. They’re not going to like it.

President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are drawing up plans to take on the government bureaucracy they have long railed against, by eroding job protections and grinding down benefits that federal workers have received for a generation.

Hiring freezes, an end to automatic raises, a green light to fire poor performers, a ban on union business on the government’s dime and less generous pensions — these are the contours of the blueprint emerging under Republican control of Washington in January.

These changes were once unthinkable to federal employees, their unions and their supporters in Congress. But Trump’s election as an outsider promising to shake up a system he told voters is awash in “waste, fraud and abuse” has conservatives optimistic that they could do now what Republicans have been unable to do in the 133 years since the civil service was created.

Trump is talking about a big short.
But directed at the people who gave us the housing crisis, the consequent Wall Street bailout, TARP and deficit spending.
DC also seems to have a continuing problem doing what the average American couple does every day with their checking account: matching spending with income.

Why should we keep subsidizing mediocrity? Less than mediocrity. Abysmal failure. http://www.usdebtclock.org/

Anyone who says we didn’t expect Trump to do these things isn’t being honest with him/herself. Draining the swamp is exactly why he was elected: this is why bureaucrats, great and small, are soiling themselves. Let the chips fall where they may.

When I was young, education was part of a bureau called HEW {Health, Education and Welfare]. LBJ decided to give the liberals in education their own bureau.

It was a major mistake and ought to be reversed. All bureaucrats do is look for ways to make themselves look productive. How? By making new regulations and mandating new liberal topics into the curriculum. A pox on their houses.

With all due respect to Trump, his goal does not go far enough in my opinion.

More specifically, Trump needs to work with corrupt Congress to get rid of all federal jobs that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

In fact, once patriots work with Trump to put a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that corrupt Congress cannot justify under its Section 8-limited powers, the states should be able to find a tsunami of new revenues to hire some of these former federal employees.

If patriots do not work with Trump to make Congress surrender state powers that the corrupt feds have stolen from the states back to the states, then consider the following.

It is only a matter of time before we have another lawless president like Obama that works in cahoots with corrupt Congress to use those stolen state power to oppress the states and the people.

The great thing is that he doesn't need to fire everyone.

If the people he hires just hold their departments accountable and force them to actually work ... plenty more bureaucrats will leave on their own.

I'd look for a huge influx into academia - lots of make-work jobs in THOSE bureaucracies. At least until the free government money runs out.

I remember our new Vice-President Albert Arnold Gore Jr.’s first official task — investigating ways to downsize the federal government. Result? “Can’t find anything that can be downsized, boss.”

That’s kind of like when Nancy P assured us that they had already cut the budget to the bone and couldn’t cut any more. Right.

Thanks for doing the research. Knew it was in the billions but didn’t know exactly how much. If this group of folks plus all the politicians - like Sharpton - paid up, it would help reduce the debt. This is just ridiculous and more so because the Republican controlled Congress has done nada to collect this money.

A month or so ago I read an article that claimed almost a third of them said were going to quit if Trump got elected — or were they just “joking” the same way all those celebrities were when they promised to leave the country?

Making people accountable will change the mindset of the bureaucrats when they can no longer hide from the spotlight of responsibility.

Just like cockroaches.

It is way past time to eliminate the Civil Service. The Spoils System certainly wasn’t fair and discouraged good men from working for the government but hey, those good men don’t go build businesses any more, they go to work for the government. And a continuous employment builds fiefdoms and power bases to the point that the bureaucrats are really the most powerful persons in government. Better to have employees cycling in and out and power cells being broken up. Better to eliminate most government jobs than to neutralize productive people by hiring them to lifetime sinecures.

Eliminate whole agencies. All of them.Pay all the fired employees two months salary for severance. give the vested ones their retirement but eliminate their jobs and the Agencies except for the first four Departments- War, Treasury, State, Attorney General.

.
Where do you think they’re going to go?

All they know how to do is churn the bureaucracy.

The price of bureaucracy is what is going to fall.

If it’s not directly in the Constitution, I’d like to see it eliminated. Failing that, I’d like to see a 3:1 ratio on hires - one new hire for every three who leave that department/agency.
