Trump demands apology from Hamilton fans who booed Mike Pence

The US vice-president elect, Mike Pence, was booed by a theater audience when he attended the hit hip-hop musical Hamilton in New York on Friday night – and then had a message about protecting diversity delivered to him from the stage after the curtain call.

On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump accused theatre-goers of having “harassed” Pence, writing on Twitter: “Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!”

He also demanded an apology: “The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”

Yes, #BoycottHamilton is trending on twitter but almost every tweet is against the boycotters. The tweets are happy the right is boycotting so they can get more tickets. Or mocking ignorant trump voters from boycotting something they were never going to see anyway. :(

Pretty much the edgy thing.

Remember the whole thing is (very intellectual) RAP.

The tweets are happy the right is boycotting

Boycotting itself doesn't matter. People see what happened to a good man. And most are turned off by the lack of fair play. The thespians took advantage of Pence's presence. The vast majority of Americans still recognize the need for respect, decency, and fairness.

“However, President elect Trump wants the PRODUCTION / CAST of Hamilton to apologize and they should. The audience paid good money and what happens on stage is what they paid for. The cast doing what they did for political reasons is appalling. No matter who was in the audience.”

Exactly right. It’s no different than if I worked at Home Depot and jumped up on the counter and started making a political speech to shoppers. I would be fired. They should be, too.

I didn’t know this for a long time. I was lamenting that when shows close, they are gone forever. So ephemeral! All that talent! And somebody clued me in.

My impression has always been that the dancers love it. They sometimes give away their dance shoes and other mementoes. What is better after an excellent performance than close-up personal adulation for your most worshipful fans?

I have never heard of such behavior.

Someone did it not so long ago over a cell phone going off.

I think the offense was disrespect for the office of vice president of the United States.

As much as we disliked Dinkins back in the day, we never booed him, because he was the mayor of New York City.

Manajiwin.

Respect.

It was indeed showing disrespect to VP Elect Pence...

I understand phones should be turned off...This was entirely different.

I was shocked.

Reagan wanted to abolish the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Maybe that’s something Trump should put back on the table for consideration.

Most likely, the Broadway shows aren’t directly benefitted by NEA funds, but tangentially there may be many connections. I’ll bet the elite would not be happy if some of their hoity-toity entertainment, art shows, scholarship, etc., options were to be threatened.

The Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts is appointed by the President. I nominate Charlie Daniels or any of the Duck Dynasty guys.
