Texas Oilmen Push For Ted Cruz but Immigration Hard-Liners Want Dark-Horse Kris Kobach

A fight is brewing among forces behind the Trump transition over the future of the Justice Department, with separate factions pushing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.

A cabal of wealthy Texas oilmen is aggressively promoting Cruz for attorney general, according to a person with direct knowledge of discussions behind the scenes who also said the one-time Trump rival wants the slot.

On Thursday a new wrinkle emerged, with the Trump transition team releasing a statement about a meeting between Trump and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions. Trump, the statement said, 'has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's Attorney General and U.S. Attorney.' Those words suggest he is being considered to run the Justice Department.

A separate group of billionaires is encouraging the president-elect's team to embrace Kobach, citing his hard-line approach to restricting immigration across the board.

Those insiders want Trump to appoint Cruz to the U.S. Supreme Court instead.

I was suggesting Sessions for a post such as AG or Homeland Security, I agree he would be too old for the Supreme Court. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind seeing Cruz on the Court. He’s a lousy politician and the Court is more of an academic post, an “intellectual feast” as Judge Bork put it. I think he would be happier there and I believe he’d be a good conservative justice. Plus as others have said the Senate would be glad to get rid of him.

As far as the other Cabinet positions, I would be happy if a bunch of people I’ve never heard of were nominated. Get some new blood in there.

Enough scheeming!

Only those that delay returning for a long period have anything to file.

Apparently you’ve not done much traveling, or you would have a better grasp of what happens when parents return with an infant that is not listed on the mother’s passport.

Things are looking great for conservatives: Trump is seeing who really cares and lives to take down the Left. Couldn’t be more hopeful!

Cruz was 4 when his parents moved from Canada.
The paperwork exists, he had the records sealed.
Why?

It’s just not an issue. Cruz is not going to President.

I trust Trump. You don’t have to if you don’t want to. But bashing Cruz is now a slap at Trump’s judgement. Not me. Not going there. I think he’s doing great.

Trump is not considering Cruz for Supreme Court, that shows good judgment on Trump’s part.
You said you wanted him there, I pointed out why I don’t.
Anything else I would be fine with, but he is probably more valuable in the Senate, there are too few conservatives as it is.

“And Cruz if nothing else is a hard core Constitutional Conservative”

Cruz voted for the Corker bill to allow Iran nukes, which flew in the face of the Constitution, literally and figuratively. He also has a hard time with defining what an NBC is. Not to mention his support for trade bills that also bypass the Treaty Clause.

He also didn’t seem to mind, contemporaneously, that the US was out overturning legal governments under a decade-old “Congressional Authorization” to combat Terrorism.

These are all big, very important Constitutional Questions. Perhaps the most important of our time. He failed them all. He thinks, or pretends to think that trans bathrooms are more important.

Cruz is not a “hard core Constitutional Conservative” in this universe, or any other I can conceive of.

I didn't "renounce" anyone. Whatever President Trump decides is all good but growing up in West Texas I have a problem with anything the Bushies are even remotely involved in. Look where George P ended up on his first political venture. The whole thing stinks.

The mindless hens bashing Cruz will be forced by Trump to end their hen-pecking and go back to lurking.

Cruz proved himself to be Bush operative during the primaries.

He cannot be trusted
