In what is certainly sure to draw ire from some, if not many, in the Hollywood community, two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks opted for grace and class when speaking about President-elect Donald Trump. After a week of hysteria-laden open letters and Twitter rants from entertainment industry liberals like Aaron Sorkin and Joss Whedon, Hanks' calm demeanor and response really stood out. The actor was being honored at the Museum of Modern Art in New York when he offered a refreshing dose of perspective.
We are going to be all right because we constantly get to tell the world who we are. We constantly get to define ourselves as American. We do have the greatest country in the world. We move at a slow pace. We have the greatest country in the world because we are always moving towards a more perfect union. That journey never ceases, it never stops. Sometimes, to quote a Springsteen song, its one step forward, two steps back, but we still aggregately move forward. We, who are a week into wondering what the hell just happened, will continue to move forward. We have to choose to do so, but we will move forward because if we do not move forward, what is to be said of us?

Then Hanks said something that would probably be career suicide for a less established actor:
"This is the United States of America. We'll go on. There's great like-minded people out there who are Americans first and Republicans or Democrats second," Hanks told THR. "I hope the president-elect does such a great job that I vote for his re-election in four years."
While it is sad that kind, patriotic words like this stand out so much because vitriol is the norm, it's also comforting to know that not everyone has lost his or her mind. Many of Hanks' contemporaries truly believe that America is now in the midst of a possibly apocalyptic existential crisis. That's largely based on a reality that's prone to hysteria because it doesn't get much exposure to people who think differently.
Hanks' real world is a bit more...real. He lives in the same place and works in the same industry as Sorkin and the others, but has somehow managed to notice the America beyond the Hollywood bubble. He is also one of the most accomplished and respected actors of his generation. Maybe, just maybe, others will pause and take his words to heart.
Maybe.
Bingo. Many have said after seeing Tom Hanks on SNL, they would make certain not to see that new movie. Maybe, just maybe,m he made the connection. The director was Ron Howard.
This was Ron’s forth flop movie in a row. I’m sure there was a lot of soul searching done in the past few weeks.
“but I knew there was something I liked about Tom Hanks. “

Me too——he’s a great actor.
Politics have nothing to do with it.
.
I have read a few stories where he is a Trump supporter too. Not surprising to me as he has been unhappy with OBuggery.
One thing I do think President Trump will accomplish is to break through that wall on account of his performance - which I am confident will astonish even his harshest critics. Tom Hanks might be putting himself in position for that eventual reality.
If you haven't seen it, watch "Forrest Gump". Brilliant acting all around. Great story. Even more so if you lived thru the 60's.
That just means he’s a grown up.
IMHO he's more talented than De Niro.
Dear Tom: You are dead to us. Don't ever come back.

Hollywad
Tom grew up in a blue collar home and his family struggled financially when he was growing up. Given what has happened with the economy the last 8 years maybe he is remembering his roots. Tom is not a stupid guy, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Good for Tom.
LOL!.............or Kanye...................
Dear Hollywood celebrities, You exist for my entertainment. Some of you are great eye candy. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you can scare the crap out of me. Others make me laugh. But you all have one thing in common, you only have a place in my world to entertain me. Thats it. You make your living pretending to be someone else. Playing dress up like a 6 year old. You live in a make believe world in front of a camera. And often when you are away from one too. Your entire existence depends on my patronage. Ill crank the organ grinder; you dance. I dont really care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your stance matters far less to me than that of my neighbor. You see, you arent real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer and you cease to exist in my world. Once I am done with you, I can put you back in your little box until I want you to entertain me again. I dont care that you don’t like Mr.Trump. But I bet you looked cute saying it. Get back into your bubble. Ill let you know when Im in the mood for something blue and shiny. And I’m also supposed to care that you will leave this great country if Trump becomes president? Ha. Please don’t forget to close the door behind you. We’d like to reserve your seat for someone who loves this country and really wants to be here. Make me laugh, or cry. Scare me. But realize that the only words of yours that matter are scripted. I might agree with some of you from time to time, but it doesnt matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment. So, shut your pie hole and dance.
Great to hear!
I’m not a smart man, but I know bad government when I see it.
He’s great to GIs and Vets. Yeah he’s a bleeding heart but he’s alright in his good deeds to the military.
“IMHO he’s more talented than De Niro.”
All DeNiro can do is play a hard-ass punk in his movies. No range whatsoever.
You know, I’ve always liked Joss’ work. But he’s been in Hollyweird too long.
I mean how can the guy, who’s responsible for the Browncoats, who were very much against the establishment, end up supporting the establishment?
It’s a total discontent.
Dennis Miller on BOR asked “which celebrity endorsement of Hillary put Trump over the top?”
He spoke out once about fiteen years ago and was quieted very definitively very quickly. Ding dong. Shes out of power. Tgere is no use for her any more. Even putting chelsea into nitas seat will lose its appeal to most
He doesn’t mean it, but he also is smart enough to realize many in America aren’t interested in hearing his disdain.
So... ‘We are going to be all right’ in a ‘dark day’ filled future. Got it. No thanks Mr. Hankey...
