In an election cycle when just about everyone got it wrong, Matt Drudge ended up vindicated. The editor of the massive, conservative news aggregation site spent much of the last 18 months leading with those rare polls and stories that predicted a Trump victory — meanwhile the Huffington Post, sometimes called Drudge’s liberal mirror, gave Hillary Clinton a 90-something percent chance of winning just hours before the polls started closing.
In the aftermath of an election when just about every major outlet seemed to misread Donald Trump, and when fake and factually dubious news flooded the web, sites like the Drudge Report raise a chicken-and-egg question: Did Drudge and his conservative ilk just get it right, or did they play a more active role, driving a negative (and sometimes made-up) narrative about Clinton that helped cost her the election?
Ever since it broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal in 1998, the Drudge Report has maintained a unique place in the American news media landscape. The site, according to Quantcast, attracts over 24 million unique monthly visitors in the U.S., many of whom flock to the bare-bones page to devour its scandalous and sensational content. The aggregator puts a conservative spin on mainstream stories, and then veers into questionable territory — including a tabloid story about Bill Clinton’s allegedly illegitimate child and claims that longtime Clinton family confidante Sidney Blumenthal beat his wife (Blumenthal eventually took Drudge to court over the story).
But this year, Drudge had an almost singular focus: eviscerating Hillary Clinton. Along with linking to coverage of well-reported scandals, including Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state, Drudge also spotlighted some very controversial stories.

A most interesting thing I have learned since the election. I am stunned at the reaction from democrats. I watch the news media. I am on the computer all the time. And I go to numerous sites, even CNN to see what the left is saying. But I never got that Trump was a racist homophobe. He was running on a lot of things. But that wasn’t what he was running on. And there were numerous people of all races at his rally. Of course white males were predominate. But hispanic citizens and gays were never disparaged by Trump.
However according to the folks marching in the street this was a war against intolerance. I thought it was a war against terrorists, law breakers, and elites. So I think these people are reading Alt-left web-sites. And I just can’t read those. The writing is too bad.
They should award him with ownership of the NYT.
Thanks to Matt and LOL to the LSM that omits what they did on behalf of Hillary - you’d think it was a one-sided thing where all else was even except for Drudge maybe working against Hillary....

Matt drudge has been in person at two different National events by Free Republic and he did not throw his weight around at all. he was trying to be a completely ordinary person on the periphery, so I give him a lot of credit for that.
by linking to us, that is responsible for something like 20 to 25% or more of Free Republic total membership. he does that very unselfishly:
by linking to as he actually permits for a lot of people to circumvent his site, so his linking to us is to his own detriment.
always click on his ads, always try to say nice things about Matt because he has really helped us a whole lot.
The sense I get from this article is once again leftist projection.
The left does all this push-polling to try and Ouija-ize the election for Canky, and now that that has failed, they are trying to blame the right for Ouija-izing for Trump.

Exactly right.
Also, notice the use of “alleged” and “allegedly” in this story and other liberal news stories. The love that word when it can smear a conservative or when they are trying to diminish the impact of a liberal scandal. But the word disappears from their stories when conditions are the opposite.

I miss Drudge’s radio show. And the live thread that followed it.
Drudge was going to be a political casualty under a Clinton administration. No question about it. They were going to find a way to silence him.
We owe Matt a huge debt of gratitude for having the courage to publish what the liberals don’t want us to see.

That said, lately I've gotten tired of even seeing the lying distorted MSM headlines. This makes me wonder if the time has come to put some filters on FR. For example, every post could have just one tag, such as the following incomplete list:
I understand there's a point in looking at the MSS "barf alert" articles from time to time, but I'd rather scan them as a batch instead of having them season continually on my food.
At this season we have won. We can safely ignore the from the MSM and focus on the good news of a coming reforming of America.
