Parents need to get a grip on their schools. They've forgotten they own the schools, not the other way around. Get themselves to board meetings and run for the board. Get themselves into the schools by volunteering and bringing back PTAs. Talk to their kids to find out what's going on at school. Go to school functions and be present at practices. Be the squeaky wheel.
There would be about 2 times each year I'd have to take a few minutes of time to fix a moronic decision a school official made. Normally, it only took a couple of well placed phone calls and sit back with some popcorn. All those years and I only lost two battles. Imagine if a few other parents had given 5 minutes of their time.

I agree. I was an involved parent and I stood up to the system a few times a year. It made a huge difference. My mother was a great example of that type of parenting, she once got elected to the school board just to get a really sorry teacher fired.
