Sen. Barbara Boxer to introduce bill to end Electoral College
CNN ^ | November 15, 2016 | Daniella Diaz

Retiring Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, who was an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election, is set to introduce a Senate bill that aims to end the Electoral College.

Boxer announced in a statement on Tuesday that the bill, which she planned to introduce later Tuesday afternoon, would determine the winner of presidential elections by the outcome of the popular vote.

She cited President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the Electoral College despite Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's apparent popular vote advantage.

Trump now praises Electoral College, says he could have won popular vote

"In my lifetime, I have seen two elections where the winner of the general election did not win the popular vote," Boxer said in a statement. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

Senator, talk to me about voter ID and voter fraud reform. If we get that nailed down, then we can talk electoral college.

Otherwise, you can just stop stealing elections. You are only upset now because it didn’t work this time. You needed four million phony votes and you only got three million.

It cannot be done by a bill. It must be done by a Constitutional amendment which requires ratification of 3/4 of the states. And that is not going to happen.

Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

So in her feeble mind, your vote only counts if your candidate wins ? Simply introducing a bill does not change the Constitution. What a complete idiot !

So why have “United States” anymore if 10-12 states are against the wishes of 38-40 states? Might as well dissolve the Union.

BARBIE ma’am no you may not. We understand that you wish to rule the United States from major metropolitan areas, and owning every election but that’s not why we have the Electoral College. If you don’t understand that Barbie you are Stupid and perhaps evil with tyrannical thrown in there.

Additionally, many think you have a penchant for grandstanding to further your own cause. if you would read discussions concerning good leadership it’s pretty obvious that you do not meet the criteria. you are a poor leader who wishes to control in a country which wishes that the people have the control and not special interests or those trying to subvert constitutional law. you are a subversive tyrant that’s not a good thing in a constitutional republic.

One can only ask the question; are you a Marxist?

Exactly. There is no “bill” that can re-write the Constitution itself.

A Constitutional Amendment is required remove the Electoral College.

"How about something we can all get behind like a repeal of the 17th Amendment?"

There are probably 100 people who can't get behind this. They reside in the Senate and unless 2/3rds of them agree to pass this constitutional amendment bill it's going nowhere. I don't think you'll get 2/3rds of them to vote themselves out of a job.

Notice how Dems always use ones retiring - Boxer or Dingy Harry - or not up for re-election for these stunts.

You’ll know to take them seriously when they use someone up for re-election soon.

More tricks and lies from the dems.

Defeat it; we don't want the big cities to be dictating the presidential vote.

Lots of lefties are Star Trek geeks and vice versa.

They love the idea of The Federation and a large group of mostly autonomous planets whose self-interest is respected and preserved. They also love the ‘diversity’ of the planets’ inhabitants.

For some reason, they are unable or unwilling to comprehend that the federal government is the real-world analogue to the Federation and that the states are the autonomous planets.

The Declaration of Independence says absolutely NOTHING about a federal or central government. It does say some very specific things about free and independent states.

Came in as a twit; leaves as a twit.

WITH California, Hillary leads the popular votes counted by about 950,000.

WITHOUT California, Trump leads the popular votes counted by 2.1 million.

In other words, 49 States’ popular votes overwhelmingly preferred Trump. In fact, a MAJORITY of Americans outside of California voted for Trump (51%). And this INCLUDES the liberal bastions of New York and Massachusetts.

Take a hike (soon to be ex) Sen. Boxer!

Now who is out of the mainstream of America?

"The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

What has changed in modern society that necessitates a move from the electoral college to a popular vote? Tyranny and mob rule, and our Constitutional Republic's 237 year effort to protect the citizens' rights from both hasn't changed.

Does the bill include provisions for a runoff election in case no candidate wins a majority of the national popular vote? Clinton may at the moment have more votes than Trump, but the last time I checked, she did not have over 48%.

But that’s another issue the Electoral College SOLVES.
