Appearing on the 9 a.m. ET hour of NBC’s Today on Monday, left-wing actor Donald Sutherland recalled being scolded by actress Helen Mirren on the set of one of his films: “Helen Mirren came up to me on the set and....she said, ‘You are the most privileged person on Earth’....I said, ‘How can you say that?’ And she said, ‘You are a white male.’”
Co-host Tamron Hall wondered: “And your reply to that was?” Sutherland proclaimed: “There’s no reply. I was ashamed. I was stunned. And I have gotten more ashamed. It's interesting to realize that you are seen as an integral part of a group that many of whom are mendacious, misogynist, of bigots, racists, and it's appalling.”
Hall followed up: “So what do you tell your – you have many, many grandchildren. What do you tell them?...what do you tell them to give them a hopeful view of life?”

Sutherland, clearly referring to election of Donald Trump, ranted:
How can I give them a hopeful view now? How can I give them a hopeful view? I have a wife, I have a daughter, I have a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. What do I say to them? What do I say to them? Their women’s rights have gone, you know? The environment has gone, minimum pay has gone. What do I say to them? How do I – you know, I can only say one thing, I am a Canadian. And that's what I am.

Helen Mirren is now probably a bigger star than Donald Sutherland. She has nothing to complain about.

Gee first of all i thought he was dead. 2nd...is he ever a us citizen? 3rd he wasn’t ashamed to take the white mans money for his films.
Which would explain why almost ANYONE can get hired, admitted to college, or get a government or government-funded contract more easily than he can.
Apparently to liberals, "privileged" == discriminated against with no justification but with the approval (and sometimes coercion) of the law.
I’m perfectly fine with being white Donny- Shame you can’t come to peace with yourself- life is rough when you’re so insecure that you can’t be comfortable in your own skin color- I haven;t got a racist or misogynistic bone in my body- Suck it up buttercup and get on with life- life is pretty fun when you’re not moaning and wailing about one thing or another-

I met Donald in about ‘73 at a hippie restaurant in Chicago called Ratso’s. He was nice to me, and he was there with the late Tom Hayden. Always thought highly of him as an actor, (he had just done KLUTE, I think), but the ensuing years proved, from what I picked up, that he was precisely this kind of guilty white liberal/radical.I have known this about Helen Mirren for a long time. Donald may also have an extra helping of guilt about the tons of money he’s made doing the voice-overs for a number of corporate commercials, from food to airlines.Or he could also hate that someone named Donald got elected President, and it wasn’t him.
Besides, what about Asians? You have to discriminate against them even more severely than against whites to keep their numbers at par with the population and so maintain the fiction that everyone is equally talented and working equally hard. Wouldn’t that make Asians even more privileged than white males?

Wishful thinking. I think he’s got one foot in the proverbial grave though.
He should suck a shotgun right now. He needs to end his own misery and shame.
