I think removing the NFA regulations on silencers is a good thing, but I would also like to see the Short barreled shotgun/rifle thing adjusted.

if they changed the requirement to the arm with the stock extended in its shortest length of pull was at least 26 inches long, but with no barrel length requirement, it would allow a entirely new class of PDW that are currently pretty much prohibited.

NICS Background Check Reform

If this is what they really wanted and not to violate gun-owners civil rights by creating a registry, it could easily be done. A system could be created in which the approval data flows outward from the government to FFL's rather than the FFL sending the buyer's name to the government. Since they're not pushing this option, which would remove all the objections and obstacles, it proves that their stated goal isn't what they're really after.

“Already legal. Just pay the stupid tax.”

And what if the government put a $200 tax on the purchase of every gun - would you be OK with that? After all, they’d still be legal.

This is, pure and simple, an infringement on our right to keep and bear arms. Getting rid of this particularly odious law will still only partially return the free exercise of our rights to us, but I’ll take every little bit that I can get.

Rights are supposed to transcend all boundaries of space and time. Since my grandfathers COULD have bout suppressed full autos, I should be able to do so also (and too damned bad that neither one did, those would have been nice family heirlooms).

I could use a break from gun and Ammo purchases. Every penny of disposable income has gone there for the past several years.

Not the point. The OP said “legalize” as if ownership was illegal. Restrictive and punitive are a different subject.

That also points up the need for felony reform per se, as well as working to eliminate federal intrusion into areas of law states are able to regulate. Why should government (defined as all jurisdictions lumped together into one entity) get two bites at the apple?? If something (murder, mugging, commission of a crime with a firearm, etc.), is a proper area for state criminalization, then there should be NO federal laws allowed on the same issue. If something is properly a federal matter (immigration, import duty, etc.), then NO state laws should be allowed to exist.

“The States control who carries within their borders not the Federal Government.”

I am not sure that is so.

The “Shall not be abridged” clause looks like the Feds are making a fairly universal case. If the population has a Constitutional right to bear arms I can’t see where the states have a right to regulate that.

I don’t know that I want to live in a society where everyone feels that they need to be armed but that is actually a different issue.

Please note I am not a shooter.

Exactly. “Full faith and credit” is what needs to apply here.

If California refuses to recognize carry permits from other states then those states can easily refuse to recognize California driver’s licenses. And they should. California drivers stink.

They are not even legal in all states. That said, waiting six months and paying a $200 tax is something I consider ‘infringing’.

I would venture a guess that there hasn’t been a person murdered with a suppressed weapon in my lifetime.

Why have ridiculous length requirements at all?

A non-resident Utah CC license is a good one to have.

That's like claiming that the states control which types of soldiers will be housed in your home, not the Federal Government.

The Second Amendment makes it clear that gun laws are one of the things which were NOT left to the states.

How about:

1.) Ending any type of infringement of gun ownership. Including any and all registries, all background checks, all laws prohibiting open carry, and all laws that would prevent any American citizen from owning a firearm regardless of mental health or criminal background.

It’s ironic that the felons that shouldn’t be allowed firearms don’t care about the law and will own firearms anyways, and the felons that didn’t commit a violent crime or are a one time felon that made a mistake are the ones that want to have firearms but don’t because they are afraid of going back to the pokey.

I want to see the firearm serial numbers removed from the background check. The person is receiving the background check, not the firearm. This would stop any chance of a gun registry from background check logs.

I’ve owned suppressors and automatic weapons since 1992.I expected the ATF to come around from time to time to inspect, but so far nothing.
